RIP member suzilightning

I've learned through private channels that @suzilightning, a member since 2001, passed away in January.

 

I'll miss her. As with so many of my eGullet friends, we never met in person but had some good offline conversations. She was generous with her discarded cookbooks, and I still have many that she gave me. She was also an avid birder, and it was on our shared bucket list to meet up at my place during the hawk migration season. I imagine we'd have done some fine cooking together if that had ever happened.

This is just heartbreaking to me.  She was so funny and caring and generous.  If she got wind that I was not feeling great or was out of sorts, I'd get a message offering her friendship.  She and Johnnybird were planning a trip south August 2021 - COVID permitting.  We were SO looking forward to meeting.  I'm sorry that we weren't FB friends.  I tend to let others make the friendship offer on there.

Oh, rats! Last year Suzi sent me a pile of cookbooks, and as padding for the box, she used many copies of food magazines. That means that, somewhere, I have her real name.

 

I liked her so much. I will miss her.

She was a kind, smart, generous bright light. Hawks always make me think of her.and now will give me pause as they soar.

That is indeed sad.  I shall miss her very much.  She and I had a string of emails for a time about Newfoundland.  We were there at the same time, but never did meet up.  I am truly sorry that she is no longer with us.  She is one of the few people I've never met whose death moved me to tears.

She was incredibly generous as others have already mentioned.  This fall she sent our local library a box of cookbooks when I mentioned online how poor our cookbook collection was.

OMG OMG OMG.  I'm so upsetI can hardly see through tears to type.

 

She and I had conversations behind the scenes.  She's so smart.  Her bird migration studies.  She was so diligent.  Yes, the toast dope!

 

She sent me a care package of all of the Rice-A-Roni flavors that I can't get around here.  

 

Damn this virus.

 

Suzi you are very very missed.

She was the first one who showed just how incredibility generous people here are.  The above posts are proof of that.   I'll miss her bird posts most of all I think.  Reading her posts was almost like sitting at her kitchen table wasn't it?

I must be the only person who sent books in her direction! Back in 2006 I discovered I had several copies of one of Jancis Robinson's wine books and I offered one to anyone on eG who wanted it. Suzi was very excited to get her hands on one - a true book person. 

 

Every now and then she'd get reading about an interesting chocolatier that I might be interested in and send along a link to an article or website. It's nice to know that someone thinks about you.
