Dinner was an Iberico Secreto grilled with salsa verde and air fried broccoli.

And a delicious rosso de montalcino.

Friday night @ Cafe Katja...

They do a good burger, with melted gruyere and sautéed onions. Comes with the fried little potatoes.  A veritable bargain at only $19.

I forced myself into the hot kitchen last night.

Thankfully, I'd blanched the broccoli rabe early in the day.

If I only had an Iberico secreto...but no!  Pork loin chops, center-cut boneless (not something I usually buy, but they were on sale). Sautéed, and made a little pan sauce.  Rancho Gordo's Vaquero beans over Anson Mills (!) Charleston Gold rice, cooked on the stovetop according to their directions.

Pizza & movie night - as pretty much every Sunday 🤗

The usual starting point: Salami & mushrooms …

IMG_0067.thumb.jpeg.39d1d991eeda34b2ada106f4491f311a.jpeg

A bit misshapen, yet surprisingly tasty: feta & fresh courgettes, caramelized with some garlic & oregano …

IMG_0068.thumb.jpeg.880ac4e0e1139393c794c0ae0a306d05.jpeg

And a pizza that @liamsaunt probably would call Carbonara, but for some strange reason in my favourite pizzeria in Ludwigshafen is called Sofia Loren 🙄 Bacon, Parmigiano and eggs … Pizza bakes in about 3 min, so next time the eggs will go on top in the middle of that period …

IMG_0070.thumb.jpeg.811bdd068a705a8a82f018f2f130fbb4.jpeg

All very yummy. Enjoyed while watching Indiana Jones - Raiders of the lost ark … we want to see the new movie in the cinema soon and need to get the little one up to speed with the lore 🤗

Fish pie. The red bits are actually brown, there's some weird low-light processing going on by my Huawei.

Fish pie mix from Sainsbury's, prawns from the freezer, hard boiled eggs, something like bechamel for the white sauce.

Great looking pizzas.  I love the eggplant one especially.

I remember when I watched that movie for the first time.  On VHS tape.  Still one of my favorites.

BBQ_pork_slaw_202307.thumb.jpg.7ac6b5be951583a66f4231bbab79a916.jpg

Leftovers: pulled pork sandwich with homemade BBQ sauce and tangy coleslaw. Jazzed-up potato salad.

Somehow a huge bowl of coleslaw disappeared so I mixed up a quick batch with leftover cabbage, shallot, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, sugar, S&P, and just enough mayo to mellow it out a bit. Some folks expected standard creamy coleslaw but I prefer tangy with BBQ pork.

You may want to play wth the JailHouse slaw @kayb posted. I down the sugar. Sometimes add cucumber. to the portion before service.  https://forums.egullet.org/topic/156711-kaybs-cole-slaw-jail-slaw/

I'd suffer the plating.  I don't see any kale.

红烧排骨 (hóng shāo pái gǔ), red-cooked pork ribs

烤鸭 (kǎo yā), roast duck

ribsandduck.thumb.jpg.87f0c0cb24de40f05808b949b65e3955.jpg

The two proteins were served with stir-fried and shredded spicy napa cabbage. Plating looks like it was lobbed from a helicopter, i know. My doing entirely, but I am semi paralysed and I was hungry.

枸杞菜蛋汤 (gǒu qǐ cài dàn tāng)

gojieggsoup.thumb.jpg.37072944ec4f203d262c427d076efa72.jpg

This was delicious. Basically, egg drop soup but with goji tops replacing the more usual seaweed. I'll be pinching that idea if I ever recover enough to cook.

I dealt with this by treating it as another vegetable side dish, digging out the greens. Then finished by drinking the soup. Very Chinese.

My girl requested a thing off the TV again… a contestant on the barbecue show made a prosciutto wrapped chicken with mushroom duxelles (yes a bbq show🤔)

So another example of “oh, you want to eat that thing on TV?”

Scallops and shrimp in a white wine butter sauce

Okay, you've got me on this one. How do you get that beautiful char on those shrimp and still have them perfectly cooked and juicy?
