Late last night, the garage door opened and Charlie walked in with bags from the grocery store. He got cookies, ice cream, chips, dip and two great big steaks.  We had the steaks today with oven fries and cookies for dessert.  The oven got it's first use of the convection feature with the potatoes.  There is a lot of steak leftover.  Charlie mentioned cheesesteak sandwiches, I wondered if they made Bahn Mi sandwiches with beef and he said that was a good idea.  We will probably have some kind of sandwiches tomorrow.

 Sautéed zucchini, duck breast and homemade ciabatta.  Zucchini would not have been my vegetable of choice but when I opened my crisper drawer it was apparent that it was now or never.

So many wonderful dinners on this page.

 

@Blue_Dolphins, pasta and garlic bread.  @Norm Matthews, beautiful steaks,  @Chefmd,'s golden bird, @Anna's perfectly cooked duck breasts. ( I love your choice of zucchini )

and @HungryChris's oysters.   It is still early here on the west coast and I'm craving those oysters.

Kibbeh Saniyeh.

One with meat and chickpeas, the other with mushrooms, lentils and chickpeas. Both flavored with caramelized onion, and heavily spiced with lightly  cinnamony baharat and a crisp dough.

Flying trip to up the Hudson Valley for my FIL's 85 birthday dinner.  Great family time ... OK restaurant food.

Back to reality today.  John is off to climb rock today.   He will have had a lot of protein for breakfast and lunch and I had nothing thawed out.   OK time to run some ideas by HIMSELF.........

He agreed to something vegetarian (just not too much fiber .....hey, baby steps).    Roasted butternut squash, shallots and carrots, capers, olives, artichoke hearts with some homemade unconventional  pesto I liberated from the freezer -  walnuts, avocado oil, home grown basil and flat-leaf pasta) and his gluten free penne.

Thai flavored tuna burgers from Fine Cooking, Thai combination fried rice from NY Times (minus the tofu since I am not allowed to eat it).   Sugar snap peas.

Great looking baguettes Norm.

Tonight's Dinner  - Pizza

Dough was made on Friday with the intention of baking bread.   Instead I made a large 17" pizza with enough dough left for a small loaf.

Pizza was baked on the grill.

Last night.

 

Pork with salted black beans, garlic, ginger, scallions, Shaoxing wine and soy sauce. Served with wilted spinach and rice.

The other night I did a salad with bits and pieces from the fridge:

Greens with ham, cheese, mushrooms, turkey.

 

I found a bag of King Arthur bread flour in the freezer and made a few loaves of their breadmaker white bread:

This was a very good, simple loaf.  Nice texture.

 

Saturday was Decorating the tree day.  We had our traditional fondue feast.  Meat and sauces:

Béarnaise, curry, A-1, BBQ, pizza and horseradish.

 

Pickly stuff – including my MIL's divine green tomato pickles:

Sous vide (155F x 1.5 hours) then baked (375 convection) sausages with a butternut squash & pancetta sauce for homemade fettuccine.  Salad not shown.

I over did the sausage browning in the oven so they were a little dry...dang it.  Too much wine is my excuse:P

Composed salad inspired by salad nicoise.  Base of napa cabbage topped with eggs, tuna, olives, marinated peppers.

Appleton Farms butt portion ham from Aldi. I did this on a trial run for Christmas brunch at Deb's daughter's. We both liked it a lot and I think we will pull the trigger on a similar spiral sliced version for the big event. Tender, not too salty and good flavor.
