What is the connection between having magnets on one's refrigerator and aiming to impress?

Those people don't live in my house, a farm with a husband and two big dirty dogs.  OTOH, I am not a dedicated house cleaner I guess.  My Mother once said about my kitchen (and I printed it out and put it on the wall): "Having a dirty kitchen is better than living a life of thievery and killing".  No I am not kidding.  I guess she was appalled by a fingerprint.  Or pawprint.

I loved collecting fridge magnets from various places for about a decade. My stainless steel fridge isn’t magnetic and the sides of said fridge are surrounded by built in cabinet sides.

Yes - this is what we do when we travel. We are into slightly schlocky souvenirs.  It has started again...

My culinary magnets include a temperature guide from Themoworks, promotional magnets from Cascade Analytical Reagents and Biochemicals (purveyors of rare sugars, who it seems are now sadly out of business) and (speaking of sugar) Wray and Nephew.  A collection of Dykes to Watch Out For food porn magnets from cartoonist Alison Bechdel.

Less food related:  a picture of my elder granddaughter and a magnet from the library.

we have a cat-leaning theme...a magnet holds photos of some of the departed furry souls, a magnet from the Cat Sitter we used to use, two small decorative cat magnets I actually purchased (one is a girl/boy pair, the other is a cat with Chefs hat). A magnetic clip to hold coupons. A magnet-backed mini calendar we always get in the mail from local realtors. A few others. On the (non-visible) side of the fridge I keep poultry shears in a holster and a small sharpening device for knives.

I know, I know - another banal topic. Goes along with my PB&J stuff, along with other things that creep into my deranged mind.

But...seriously, refrigerator magnets.  We've got a nice, shiny, new, stainless-steel, French-door, 33" wide, Kitchen Aid refrigerator.

And I'm on a need-to-know basis. Do I reinstall the refrigerator magnets that used to decorate our previous fridge, which wasn't stainless, but white, yet magetic?

Is your refrigerator covered with refrigerator magnets?  Does it look like a kindergarten's class project?

HELP!

Yes, and yes.

Among my magnet collection are an Elvis magnetic "paper" doll collection (two complete changes of clothing and guitars); an Elvis Cadillac bottle opener, a handful of Superman comic panels, a bunch of chip clip thingies, a couple of dry-erase note boards, my Thermapen knockoff, several palm trees, a flock of pink flamingos, and a Route 66 sign.

Among the things they hold: birth announcements for all three grandkids; save-the-date magnet for the middle child's wedding 10  years ago; artwork from a couple of the grands; graduation photos from a family friend, photo Christmas cards from all the kids, and assorted bumper stickers.

No, I have not had the fridge since I was in college, though you might think so from looking at it. Particularly the bumper stickers.

I confess to having a McGovern-Shriver bumper sticker, though it never occurred to me to decorate the refrigerator with it.

With the kitchen freshening up we took ALL the stuff off the fridge so I could clean and move it.   SOME of the magnets have gone back on; some have gone up to Poughkeepsie and some downstairs.  Both Lord of the Rings magnet sets are back on the upstairs fridge along with some mouse ones from Current and a Keith Haring man magnet with my gift wish list along with the business card of our late, departed cat sitter that I can't make myself get rid of.  There are some "free" frames with pictures of John's family and on the side is another Haring man with my CIA and Kliban (Love to eat them mousies...mousies what I loves to eat) aprons at the ready.

The guitar magnets went downstairs.....

We did get rid of many of the commercial ones

My stainless fridge has non-magnetic doors, but the sides are magnetic. So we have things stuck to the non-visible side that we want to make sure we keep around but that nobody else needs to see: receipts, repair people phone numbers, and the like. The visible side is reserved for things that we want to display: thank you notes, a special photo or two, and magnets that were gifts. In the latter category falls our newest set of magnets, from my MIL: cat butts!

I think I have a couple PowerPuff Girl magnets still in their plastic wrapping ("prizes" from a morning cereal box), some "Where the Wild Things Are" magnets, and some magnets that look like flattened Pez dispensers.

My most recent magnet purchase was of 4 super strong magnet hooks (from Amazon). I swear an elephant could swing from them and not dislodge them. I got tired of the fly swatter hanging on a flimsy magnetic hook on the side of my refrigerator constantly falling off due to the faintest of breezes wafting by.

Best magnet purchase ever. :B xD

But in last picture there is an empty hook to the right.  I worry that something has been lost!

I suspect the Magnet Gods everywhere are bowing down to you right now.  Hell, you

may have replaced humankind's dependency on duct tape.

I think normally an OR tape goes there that I use to polish molds - there seems to be one hanging on the other hook.

Most of my really good magnets on this fridge come from Lee Valley - pretty heavy duty magnets I must say.
