@Norm Matthews – thank you for the link.  I’ll be trying that.

@MaryIsobel – those toasted ravioli were just frozen ones that I cooked in the CSO (you could also use the oven or toaster oven).  I don’t remember when I first had them, but I’m thinking it might have been trips to Baltimore growing up.  These were Celentano brand that I found in Kroger.  I got a bag of cheese and a bag of beef.  We are in the midst of trying to help our daughter move out of her apartment and back home and cooking just isn’t happening.  These just take a few minutes and with some jarred marinara and a salad, we’ve got a decent, hot meal.

@mgaretz – great looking Cincinnati chili!  I love the stuff.  I grew up on chili-mac and when we moved to Indiana near Cincinnati I felt like I’d found my people😁!  The flavor profile was completely different, of course, but I loved it anyway!

@Ann_T – Oh, Ann!  The chicken looks lovely, but the description of your gravy sent me over the edge!

@Duvel - lovely sausage meal.  I’ll take a serving of sauerkraut, please 😁.

@Margaret Pilgrim – I would walk right across the country for that lovely, lovely prawn Louis.

Mr. Kim requested pancakes and sausage for dinner on Friday, so I made pikelets and sage sausage:

My pancakes, while they tasted fantastic, hardly rose at all.  My self-rising flour and my baking powder were brand new, too.  Perplexing.  Served with apples and pears:

We spent Saturday evening out looking at Halloween decorations and had dinner at our favorite Richmond pizza joint: Mary Angela’s.  Perfectly tender calamari and their fantastic marinara:

They do slices, which is perfect for us:

And Mr. Kim and I shared a steak and cheese:

IMG_7320.jpg.f98f298f63b09b8a798947c353e638d7.jpg

Halloween night I made a batch of Mr. Kim’s chili to have when the trick or treaters were gone:

Served with Wegman’s cheese bread, toasted:

Last supper of October: Braised Pork Stuffed Bittermelon with Black Bean Ginger sauce. Every once in a while, we crave bittermelon!

Started November with something softer: Tofu with Pork in Toban sauce: Quick version of Mapo Tofu

Went out to a market garden and picked up a couple of Musquee de Provence Pumpkins, Butternut Squash, Acorn Squash, etc. I have never stuffed anysquash, so this was a first. Unfortunately, I chose the pumpkin and didn't read thru' the instructions first. However, we don't eat supper until 8 pm, so we were fine. But I had wanted to share portions (BIG PUMPKIN!) with our bachelor neighbor and my brother. They will eat theirs tomorrow!

Thankful my oven is big!                                                   1448098822_Musqueeinoven5645.jpg.81f1e7253ad14e2916b551b4bc1d1198.jpg

Stuffing was lean ground beef, bell peppers, onion, fennel seeds, smoked paprika, garlic, red pepper flakes, and cooked multigrain & brown rice. When the pumpkin was cooked thru', I put shredded Habanero cheese on top and under the broiler for a few minutes.

We enjoyed the taste of the pumpkin, slightly different from regular pumpkin. Should have another meal out of the meat with lots of pumpkin leftover = soup!

I often crave bitter melon. I usually do it with beef, but whatever - the melon is the star.

As I endeavour to clear the freezer ahead of silly season, I came up with a Sausage and Leek casserole with everything but the tinned tomato and herbs coming from the freezer.

The sausages are my FILs (he is a Grazier / Cocky whatever term you wish to use), and whenever you do a home kill (cattle) you end up with a lot of Sausage - his partner does not eat sausage, and this is where we win (although pork sausage is forever superior) 😊

Quick, Cheap, kinda Yummy.

The usual Tuesday night miso salmon noodle bowl.  Last night's had ruby spinach, shiitake and king oyster mushrooms, and summer squash, plus the usual garlic/ginger/onion/cilantro/chiles and yet more roasted radishes.  I think I have gotten the radish fridge count under 50--until Friday of course, when I am sure we will get more!

Not exactly ribollita. Yet - reboiled.  With toasts, a fair amount of parm, and drizzled extra virgin olive oil.

Side order of sautéed, shredded Brussels sprouts.

@weinoodid you ever have the ribolleta at SF's Delfina?    It was super condensed, then fried as a patty.    Intensely delicious but sounds like labor intensive for home cook.    Yours, BTW, is gorgeous.

Thanks Kim - I've never seen them in the stores here, but there are several recipes out there for doing them in the airfryer, so I just may try them that way. Hear you on helping kids move. One of ours moved
September 1, the other October first and Dad has a pickup so... Thankfully they both have one year leases and secure jobs! I'm getting too old for this!
