Dinner 2021

The morels didn't come up on our property like they usually do this year.  Hadn't thought about it until reading the morel discussion.  I guess it must be either the weather or the spray from the crops got them?

We seem to be craving a lot of Mexican food lately.

Pork enchiladas and stuffed poblanos with sweet corn from the garden

thumbnail_IMG_1125.jpg.fd10e1124aa22621a69d6b27eb1d3f7e.jpg

A little pre-dinner snack--prosciutto wrapped cantaloup from the garden.

thumbnail_IMG_1126.jpg.475abfaf42139ed38b1ec47d7bc9e9ce.jpg

First really great tomatoes at last

thumbnail_IMG_1127.jpg.14aad536c3769659b6a6322904cdc4bf.jpg

Fried shrimp and catfish.  Getting lots of okra.

thumbnail_IMG_1128.jpg.5dc2b535b9008019339e885eeb6fd9a5.jpg

Mediterranean chicken of sorts, roasted potatoes --I think these were the Yukon golds that we grew.  Sweet corn is winding down --I should have staggered planting so we'd have it longer.

thumbnail_IMG_1130.jpg.395728faab31f784bf1ac0b0836bd78b.jpg

Enough shishito peppers from the garden for us!!!!  I can't wait for the next batch.

More Mexican--venison taco salads, salsa, more stuffed poblanos, stewed okra with tomatoes and jalapeños.

Last night was venison meatloaf, @Jaymes'squash, more of the last of the corn and tomatoes.  Tomatoes will be making an appearance a lot hopefully :)

@Shelby I am absolutely craving that prosciutto wrapped melon. My best friends father eats it all summer long. I wonder if I went to visit him and not my parents (they live on the same street) if I could get away with it!

When I lived way up in the Colorado mountains--melon was a foreign thing to me--a friend invited me to her house and her mom served musk melon slices wrapped in prosciutto.  I have no idea where she got the melon and the meat was also a new thing.  I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.  I'll never forget it.  One of my favorite things.

I think you should uber and sneak to your friends house ;)

Not sure about mask mandates, but this evening the local establishment is shirts optional.  If and when I finish off the ice and Mississippi punch -- dinner may be APO "sous vide" corn, Kenji smashburgers, tomatoes, romaine, Momofuku ranch.  And if I don't forget again, chilled 30 second green beans for dipping.

Don't risk it.   There is a tithe on "best friend's father's prosciutto wrapped melon".    Drop in on parents then slither down the street for apero.

Grilled baby zucchini with salsa and crema

IMG_1149.jpg.4eae8dc8c2d77e20ff54749883100461.jpg

Sepia spaghetti with clams.    We prefer "white pasta" with added squid ink.    More intense flavor.   But lots of garlic and butter made this quite alright.    Downright delicious.

This, I will concede, is strange, but I promise it worked. At least for me.

Braised goose liver with garlic and green chilli and brown lentils. With rice. There were some greens on the side.

@Margaret PilgrimI'd kill to have both the squash and clams right now.  Looks SO good.

I made two loaves of white sandwich bread yesterday.  One for the freezer for our upcoming hunter's visit and one for the first BLT's of the summer!

Roasted sweet peppers with basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar.

Tacos with shrimps in Buffalo sauce. A slaw of celery, cabbage and onion with blue cheese, buttermilk, scallions, pepper. Tortiallas were meh - I can never seem to find the one brand we enjoy. And making them is hard work.

Wheat IPA.

Seared Hokkaido Scallops in a butter garlic wine sauce.

Why is it that we seldom see Ann's dinner?
