I realize I am getting boring and monotonous. Cabbage rolls again. Sometimes I have to conserve my energy for other important stuff and let the freezer take care of the food.

Innovation or abomination? Here.

Canned salmon miso don. It was tasty and another option for when grocery shopping just has to wait.

I spent the morning working in the garden. By 10 AM, it was heating up and the humidity is pretty high. I went inside, turned on the A/C, put a beer glass in the freezer, made this salad with some Bibb lettuce I had picked and washed, and headed back out to the garden. Just before noon, as the sun was in it's prime and the heat was reaching 86 F, I had had enough. I was ready for lunch. Homemade smoked salmon spread, although an afterthought, fit right in!

Lunch for one:

Takoyaki (minus the octopus, which I couldn't find in the freezer, so technically Ebiyaki with shrimp), with sauce, mayo and fresh Katsuoboshi from my last Tokyo trip. I am always amazed how good that stuff is when it's fresh. Plus a beer. Or two. And possibly a nap 😉

Vegetarian Arayes - Black beans, mushrooms, onion, tomato, some egg to hold it together, spiced with bahart. Stuffed into half a pita bread and grilled until crisp. Served with plenty of tahini, and some roasted pepper.

If you never has an arayes, you are missing out on an easy and delicious treat - fry some onion, mix with ground beef, baharat, parsley and optionally toasted pine nuts. Stuff into halved pita breads, brush with oil, grill and serve with tahini.

With ground beef definitely. With black beans not so much. xD

Take-out sushi today.

IMG_0364.thumb.JPG.b94a32de127f03d31a42379137e317ea.JPG

To be honest, iced tea does not pair well with sushi. I took a break, mid-meal, got everything ready to cook dinner (assembled the stuffed clams, got the corn ready for the grill and removed the strings from the sugar snaps). When that was done, I made the proper adjustment to lunch.

This looks heavenly and cool and refreshing.  I am craving sushi.

Doesn't help that our air conditioner is broken again and it's 100 degrees but feels like 106 with humidity out.

Having unearthed the bag of frozen tamales from Miss Rhoda's in Lake City, AR, in the freezer, I had tamales and chili.
