After working a 24 hour shift in Dunnville, Kerry drove home in some pretty horrendous traffic, stopped at Denningers to grab a selection of meats, cheeses, pates, pickles and bread and then stopped to grab her other bestie who is visiting from Vancouver and then came to my house.  I did not have to lift a finger for my guests! Years ago, when my ex and I were still in our first (horrible, decrepit little) place together in Vancouver, we lacked room to entertain. So I would periodically call my best friend and his GF, and tell them we'd invited them to dinner at their place, which had a fine kitchen. So we'd go visit, and I'd cook a meal for them.

Once again @Kerry Bealand I enjoyed lunch in my humble home. Kerry picked up food from our local Vietnamese restaurant and brought it back to my house.

@Kerry Beal - if you want a fantastic source for that bread, check out Khorak Supermarket on Yonge just south of Steeles.

 

Go towards the back where they pump these out (and a few other types) all day long. 

 

When I still ate bread, it was a favourite of mine (next to Blackbird, my lost love....*sob*)

Yesterday, @Kerry Beal and I were able to escape the confines of my four walls and have lunch out. I did a little bit of research and found a restaurant in Brontë that looked very interesting. Plank is right down by Lake Ontario.  I could just see the water from where I was sitting.

I had a very small glass of Sauvignon Blanc which tasted for all the world like little green apples. I quite enjoyed it so that is not a complaint. All I know about wine tasting is that some tastes I like and some I don’t.  
 

We shared appetizers which seems to be one of our favourite ways of checking out a new restaurant. But it is also one of our favourite ways to dine.

That menu looks astounding...I'd still be there eating the little bites.  Every items has such great flavour combinations.  Quite an extensive menu also.  How many seats in the restaurant?  

Wish we had a Plank down by our lake.

Good looking lunch.  Bummer that there were no leftovers.

 

I have never heard of Bronte, so naturally, I looked it up.  I asked John, who grew up in Hamilton, if he had ever heard of it.  He had, and mentioned the Bronte bridge.  He also said that when he was a kid, he once rode his bike from where he lived in Hamilton to there.  Quite the bike ride.

 I was not complaining that there were no leftovers. I was pointing out that we managed to down rather a lot of lunch!  Brontë is a lovely little village or at least it was but it is being destroyed by high-rise condos as so many places are. I’ve spent a great deal of my time enjoying the view in Brontë Harbour.

Before we even left my house yesterday, @Kerry Bealand I knew that we would end up having lunch in a familiar place. It’s fun exploring new venues but sometimes you just need the comfort of familiarity. So after we finished grocery shopping we headed straight for Kenzo In Mississauga (there is one in Oakville but we were very disappointed when we went there).   What could be more appropriate on a day when an extreme cold alert has been issued than to enjoy a bowl of steaming noodles.

no pics...met a friend (former work client) for brunch and a long catch up on home and work gripes (2 hours later...) since we were both working "in the field" today...lousy misty cold day. We ate at PJ's Pancake House (Princeton area institution, they have expanded in the area to several locations). I had a "half portion" 3 pancakes, did the sampler so I picked Old West buckwheat, Nutty Multigrain, and Apricot Pecan. OOF...carb heavy, I just want to take a nap, I won't need any food the rest of the day. I can't imagine who could eat a whole portion (5 pancakes), like a brick.

Lunch meeting today for me with a few of the folks from the Shelter Health Network - the midwife who prompted the meeting suggested a place called the Harbour Diner. Apparently everyone in Hamilton knows about it as it's a favorite breakfast spot.

My cousin and I are in Napa and Sonoma for a few days.  We had a great lunch at Thomas Keller La Calenda Mexican restaurant in Yountville.  

“While Chef Kaelin is from Oaxaca, the traditional Mexican cuisine will cast a glance across a range of regions, including the Baja Peninsula, the Nayarit coast, and Veracruz. The kitchen will nixtamalize Mexican-grown corn for its fresh tortillas, and will import a variety of other specialty products.”

 

We had fonduto, mushroom and al pastor tacos.  A glass of Mexican rose for my cousin.  I am driving and indulge in aqua.

Today @Kerry Beal and I had a couple of errands in the same general vicinity and were about to drive off and go look for somewhere to eat when we spotted

this Japanese place that we thought we would like to check out.
 

Kerry dropped me at the curb and the man who eventually became our server and whom I suspect might be either a manager or perhaps a part owner of the restaurant saw me approaching. I am quite obviously handicapped and he was most gracious in taking care of the doors and guiding me to a seat and was solicitous to me in a very friendly way throughout. He even made sure that I was able to navigate my way out of the restaurant after Kerry had left to get the car. stuff like this needs to be recognized I think. On to lunch.
