Breakfast 2022

Half of a roasted yam from dinner the previous night, cinnamon/drizzle of maple syrup/pine nuts and into the toaster oven to reheat and toast the pine nuts. Ate with yogurt spooned on top. Will repeat, it was good.

American habit. They have this mad idea of washing off the natural protective coating (that eggs come with) before selling them. I've never seen it anywhere else.

The logic is that t here may be salmonella or some other poo bug on the egg.  So maybe pointless, but not unhinged.

But the rest of the world survives!

I know why it's done, but there are better ways. The USA still has more cases
per capita than most places. All chickens in the UK are vaccinated.

Lidl croissant with Duke’s, Swiss cheese, and tomato.  Never had this before, but I woke up thinking about it.

I'll be dreaming about those tomatoes now! We're probably a month away still from truly good, local, ripe tomatoes.

That's our go-to morning juice with OJ, unsweetened cranberry and DOLE pineapple. We found the grits online - they are fantastic.

Ah that explains the deep color. Thanks.

A few recent breakfasts.  Today's sardines on toast featured one of yesterday's sardine shopping purchases:

The artwork on this brand of French sardines cracks me up!

They are tasty, though!  The fellow in the shop told me to make sure to have extra bread on hand to sop up all the juices from the tin and that was good advice!

The other day, I was admiring the poached eggs shared here but was lacking any suitable bread.

Poached eggs on hash brown patties topped with sautéed greens and blistered tomatoes.

That was a good combo but too much food for me so the next day, I modified to this with a scrambled egg.

This was OK but I didn't quite find the right condiment. Tried tomato chutney and ketchup, neither was quite what I was looking for - maybe something more pickle-y?  I dunno I have one more hash brown in the freezer but it's not going to keep me up at night!

I’ll bet something out of Vivian Howard’s book would do the trick.

These are the smallest chicken eggs I've ever seen. Heading down to quail size. And I totally misjudged the cook on them. Over-boiled eggs on toasted muffins.
