This is the right color.  Its said to absorb liquid from the fish.

But at $15 each its hard to imagine they'd give them away (or have that many for that matter).

THANK YOU!!!!!  This was driving me crazy.

And thanks to all that searched.  I've never heard of these things.  Apparently he puts them in every game type thing he vac packs.

I'll give them back to him....makes me feel like I need to hurry up and eat all of these fish lol.

Got ir now

its for those w a non-chamber vac.

interesting idea

maybe a straw ( remember those ?  at that FastFood Place  )

cut to the right length , would do the same thing ?

good luck finding 1,000 plastic straws

multicolor

these days.

you could wash the straws ( plastic , not pressed cornmeal )

and use them again !

It's a 12-pack for $15. Still not negligible, if you fill your freezer with fish and game, but not nearly as big a pill to swallow.

I looked for the number ...couldn't find it.  12 is more reasonable

I've accomplished the same thing with a folded strip of paper towel.

But this looks better.

I believe that Wimpy started as a character on Popeye who "would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today"

I'm old.

That site is prompting a malware warning in my browser.

The domain name does look suspect. .co.uk is standard in the UK, not that.

I don't understand what the problem is that this product solves?  I have more vacuum packed fish in the freezer than I will probably ever eat.

While I'm here, the hamburger chain dates from 1954 while the cartoon character goes back to 1931.  And let us not forget Eugene the Jeep.

Indeed, Polyscience.  But it doesn't pull much water out of fish.

I think these would be used for the non chamber vac version where you can't vacuum liquids. Your basic Food Saver.

With a non-chamber vac, liquid is a real issue.  I've used a paper towel barrier successfully.

But why use a cheap paper towel when there is a gadget?\

My order will be here in a week or so 😉

I need to get off my butt and test one of the bags sealers I mentioned upthread to see if they will accomplish the same thing.

oops. It will have to wait a few hours as the noise will wake some one.

So , no plastic straws ?

https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Neon-Disposable-Drinking-Straws/dp/B07L8MK983/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3RDW79O04S3LA&keywords=plastic+straws&qid=1665240598&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI2LjMxIiwicXNhIjoiNS44MSIsInFzcCI6IjUuNjEifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=plastic+straws%2Caps%2C98&sr=8-6

and y0u can reuse them Id bet.

just cut a few to the width of the various bags you use .

w a NonChanger vac , it also helps if the bag being vac's

is well below the vac part.

@Anna N, I have those bag sealers. My most memorable experience was one time my vacuum seal failed and the leg of lamb filled up with water. The pot and the bag were too greasy for any remedial vacuum sealing but the slider did the job well for the rest of the cook.

There's no way to remove the air from the bag, unless one is satisfied with a slightly clumsy water displacement method.

They work just fine for closing a plastic bag though.

I wondered about that but I will have to try it for myself. Sometime this evening if I don’t forget.

@gfweb and @rotuts.

Why does a straw or the device work as a liquid barrier?

Wouldn't the power of the vacuum sealer just suck up the liquid around it?

@TdeV

excellent point .

no idea .  I have a chamber vac .

when I had a weston sealer , I tried my best

to keep the bag low , and never vac'd w that system

anything ' watery '

eventually the pump failed , was replaced ( $$ )

then never worked properly as the Weston Group

replaces the two circular seals , that did not need replacing

and the machine w those new seals , never got a good seal ever again.

looking again at the Cabellas' vid :

some liquid sneaks by  , but not much.

even if you keep almost all the water out of these area

humidity from wet vac's eventually might do your pump

( dry pump ) harm

Can't imagine anyone on eG will have any trouble with this one - but I was surprised that two people I work with who are no spring chickens had no idea what it was. Picked up from the ground outside the food bank.
