No, it's been months since I've enjoyed a two mai tai evening.  And my mai tai's these days are usually half strength.  However had you inquired "mai tai and opiates" you might not have been far wrong.

… which just shows that Progresso pairs well with everything.

Hi guys!

So many good looking meals above me.  @rotutsthose tomatoes look really good and juicy.  @Senior Sea Kayakergorgeous chicken legs.

Our hunter guest exhausted me so I didn't take pictures for a while.  Then I got my groove back lol.

Roasted chicken, scalloped potatoes, squash

thumbnail_IMG_5134.jpg.79dc9e1fe7615383208efb7a7990d9c7.jpg

Greek salad and Canadian bacon pizza

thumbnail_IMG_5135.jpg.d89c891c9bdf6a8ff041303ef963bb4c.jpg

thumbnail_IMG_5136.jpg.dccb8febd70a450f895fa94c622b6f79.jpg

Found a bit of corned beef in the freezer so I made sandwiches.  Really good.  I need to get more corned beef.

thumbnail_IMG_5143.jpg.37cb3d2f1ddce1239670e404804d1f89.jpg

thumbnail_IMG_5144.jpg.f6512314deeae9879a08aafa7a2349f3.jpg

Red Thai chicken curry thingy with potstickers

thumbnail_IMG_5150.jpg.a463762de6997bbf1134831580e948df.jpg

Roasted quail

thumbnail_IMG_5154.jpg.94710757da40b743328042bd5186f838.jpg

Then my mom came to stay!  Hadn't seen her for a year!

Board to nibble on after her long drive

thumbnail_IMG_5158.jpg.8f594a8cd785ec25503f50b0076c270a.jpg

I made a huge pot of spaghetti sauce and meatballs--forgot a picture.  Caprese salad to go with

thumbnail_IMG_5159.jpg.60fc492d4404f8a10920a3f80cc0533b.jpg

Mom grew some beautiful tomatoes--she lives at 9,000 feet in the Colorado mountains so it's incredible that she can do that.

thumbnail_IMG_5161.jpg.f748ed1bca2ee277719e4eef4cbed2f5.jpg

So we combined tomatoes and had BLT's and fries the next night.

thumbnail_IMG_5162.jpg.0a60ab7cf775c4d45b428d436bf95165.jpg

I had some apples that needed to be used to I made apple pie filling except that I didn't thicken it.  I whizzed it up with a bit of whole milk and a dollop or two of corn syrup.  Froze overnight and then Ninja'd it.  I think it's my favorite so far--apple pie ice cream for dessert

thumbnail_IMG_5165.jpg.f11d0607a98bab7666131f0d01b890f1.jpg

Tuesday was my birthday so we started with berries and prosecco

thumbnail_IMG_5170.jpg.d9022fdabc1db8f31b53f9a7b887bcae.jpg

I splurged and ordered from Goldbelly for birthday dinner.  Blue Ribbon Sushi offered a combo of sushi and fried chicken (weird but it certainly worked for us because Ronnie is not a sushi fan).  SO FUN and GOOD.  Don't look too hard at my terrible rolling skills lol.

thumbnail_IMG_5174.jpg.0ec9897400d10b4fd610f88611c8e847.jpg

Also ordered a Boston Cream Pie for dessert--it's my favorite :)

Next night we had ribs

Deviled eggs

thumbnail_IMG_5178.jpg.df1f2c5e5e722559651f204b8aa622a4.jpg

More beautiful tomatoes

thumbnail_IMG_5179.jpg.4185909cd24ebee8aa7bce489210d019.jpg

Broccoli salad

thumbnail_IMG_5180.jpg.d09432b479b3b71780e017ee601edf96.jpg

Okra

thumbnail_IMG_5181.jpg.ad7eb09c8b020b95bc9183851f5edf41.jpg

Mac and cheese

thumbnail_IMG_5182.jpg.1b96210e5ae1e8686848f50d4b4e60a9.jpg

Ribs out of the brolier

thumbnail_IMG_5183.jpg.b9d34f5600075afe67d31b0737bfc033.jpg

Next night I did some chicken enchiladas with beans and salsa

thumbnail_IMG_5187.jpg.ecdccb8d945e82477cc88d4ca352fcf5.jpg

Mom made her way home yesterday--glad she's home safe but sad she's gone :(

I did some chicken fried venison for Ronnie last night.

Roasted a small Sterling Silver prime rib roast for dinner last night.

With all our traditional sides, including a couple of carrots just for Moe.

We also bought a small prime rib roast as they were on sale for about half the usual price. Not nearly as photogenic as your plate, but here's mine. My husband likes the rarer bits and I often work on the better-cooked side bits. These are some of the last tomatoes from my plants.

Our local Co-Op had prime rib on last week for 7.99/lb. Unheard of price in the last few years. The Co-Op sells really good quality meat and their Prime Rib never disappoints. We bought 2!

Chix_chipotle_spinach_202310.thumb.jpg.b96d04bd351c72cb0c617bec5bfff806.jpg

Baked chipotle chicken with spinach and Mexican crema. The chile paste included fried moritas, garlic, and brown sugar. No leftovers.

Green rice with blended Poblano chiles, cilantro, mint, Thai basil, and the last of the homemade chicken stock.

I give up! Yesterday night. Dinner deivery.

Advertised on the app as 荷兰豆炒鱿鱼 (hé lán dòu chǎo yóu yú), squid with snow peas.

What turned up.

On the left we have 空心菜 (kōng xīn cài), water spinach - in Chinese, literally 'hollow heart vegetable'. Right, the star of the show, the squid with peas. The flavours were right but the peas were overcooked and the squid was vulcanised rubber. Dreadful.

I have to get back to cooking. Here is my version from a while back.

The phrase is not 'terribly rolled', it's 'rustic hand crafted rolled'.

I'm adding this to my brain....

Yes.  Rustic, hand crafted and you can taste several grains of rice on the side just to make sure you like it 😶

A few months back I told @heidihthat when I get around to doing something other than stew with my homegrown rabbits, I'd post about it. So here we are.

My GF found one of the many recipes out there for rabbit in mustard sauce, and sent it to me with a "Can we do this?" As it happened my stepdaughter and the grandkids were out last night, so it was a good time for me to monopolize the kitchen for a while. No prep shots, sadly, because in a typical example of my forward-planning skills I'd just returned my nearly-depleted phone to the charger before I came upstairs to cook.

This is the end result. Please mentally insert all the appropriate disclaimers and apologies for the dreadful lighting, my lack of photography skills, and the slapdash "It's late and I'm hungry" plating.

Those who saw my post yesterday afternoon in the garden thread will recognize that the broccolini, beans and carrots were among that haul, and the new potatoes also came from my garden. So aside from a few things like the capers and the grainy mustard, basically everything on the plate came from our own yard.

Tired out by some delivery failures tonight I went back to somewhere I've used before - nearby "Thai" restaurant.

I ordered their 黄咖喱鸡肉 (huáng gā lí jī ròu), yellow curried chicken which came with what they called 泰式炒包菜 (tài shì chǎo bāo cài), Thai style stirfried cabbage. It isn't really Thai; it's a Chinese version of Thai food. The chicken curry was mostly potato, but I expected that; all Chinese curries are mostly potato. But it was acceptable, although a bit light on spice.

In a way, my getting jaded with delivery food despite the huge choice, is actually good. It's spurring me on to get fit enough to cook again.

Earlier this week, I'd noticed Cafe Katja put up a short Octoberfest menu, in addition to their standard offerings. So off we went:

CafeKatjaporkshoulder10-12-23.jpeg.b8db63a82be8ab26c81d7fe33f5bf140.jpeg

We had the smoked pork shoulder over sauerkraut, with topfenknödel. We shared this dish, and still had some to take home!

Last night...

Chicken paella at home.  Roasted broccolini alongside.

lI had to look up  topfenknödel

ut seemed to get a sweet dessert.

It is just a dumpling that incorporates a cottage cheese like curd. Can go sweet or savory.
