My birthday dinner, because it was what I has a notion for.  A variety of sausages from Aldi (chicken apple, bacon cheddar brats, sweet Italian) I brought home and smoked and sprinkled with bbq rub. Four different cheeses clockwise, Havarti, cacio do Roma, Wensleydale  with cranberries, Parrano. Copious red wine.

Oodles of Noodles.

Inspiration: The totally Authentic 😉Chinese takeaway, open until 3am, in staggering distance from my Dorm way back when.

I think I added way too many vegetables and way too little salt, if fuzzy memory serves.

Yes,  I know I've been here before, but sometimes nothing else will do. Fish and chips. Beer batter with shichimi togarishi.

And, as ever, a second round was required.

The riblets on my chop are at 9 through 11 o’clock on the chop in the picture.  The round bone chops are quite lean with just some excess fat around the edges to trim off.  This time I was sure to get the pan really hot with some oil in the pan...got a nice crust on the outside and medium rare inside.  Makes a bloody mess on the stove but so worth it.

Yes! In Italy, chops like this might be called scottadito, or burnt fingers, since one can't wait to pick them up and start chomping.  Our favorite restaurant in Rome, Trattoria Da Cesare al Casaletto, serves a fairly delicious version.

Purple cotton candy tonight, redolent of methyl 2 aminobenzoate.  Took some while to get the color off my lips.  Others had it in their hair.  Library work is hazardous.

Needless this course informed my evening's palate.  I am not a cherry person per se but this afternoon I had sought out cherries at the local Shoprite.  $11 for a small bag.  I confess I had my fears.  No idea what variety?  They are red and organic.

Best cherries I have tasted.  A fine dinner.

Linguini with garlic, wine and herbed clam sauce and garlic bread. I was happy to see that every last clam opened nicely. The last of this latest clam harvest will go into chorizo stuffed clams today, some for dinner, some for the freezer.

Sake night with some otsumami at a small place in Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong. I honestly wouldn't find that place again, in the 6th floor of a nondescript residential building. Food was good, sake was great ...

Nanbanzuke, mentaiko, Saba, wakame & yuzu salad, pickled ika, grilled beef tongue, kamo soba.

Fried walleye last night

I think walleye would be the one fish I would choose, if I had to give up all fish, but one.

Didn't get a chance to take a pic but last night's dinner was crab cakes done in the CSO.   Convection bake setting

An 8oz container of  claw meat made two decent cakes.  Served with fresh cut corn sauted with fine diced poblano pepper and onion

the CSO did a fine job.  Cleaner and easier than pan frying, my usual technique

I wanted some salmon for dinner but I knew Charlie would not be excited about it so I made a side of Chili Rellenos which is a favorite for him.  They were a side for me, the whole meal for Charlie. They were the only thing he ate.. along with some tortillas and salasa.

I have never had walleye.  I love fish. What is it similar to?  I am assuming it's freshwater?

What's the creamy stuff on the right part of the bagel?  It looks like a delicious sandwich.

Some recent meals.  My family likes to eat caprese sandwiches before going to a rock concert.  I forget how the tradition started but it's been going on since I was 20.  Two nights of concerts, two nights of caprese sandwiches
