I think if you are going to name something “kitchen sink” then you relinquish the right to specificity!

Oh yes!  The header notes say, "The only rule about what goes into a frittata is that there are no rules.....Feel free to use whatever you have from salami, goat cheese and arugula, to kale, scallions and leftover roasted potatoes. Anything goes"

Obviously kale doesn't go in your frittata, I was just quoting from the book 🙃

I have not posted in a while.  Not sure why.  Here are two eggs from a friend’s chickens and one from eggland’s best.  It’s obvious which one is not like the others.  Scrambled with tofu.

Interestung. I am a tofu lover but never thought to scramble like that as the texture is similar. Must give it a go.

Shakshuka. Half peppers half tomatoes - cooked to develop some caramelized flavors. Finished with garlic, Moroccan paprika, cumin all fired in olive oil. Parsley and some cilantro.

With (bought) half whole wheat sourdough - baked to be warm and crisp, tahini sauce, olives, pickles, a few sliced veggies.

Hot cereal with an egg, leftover chicken nuggets .  I bought this cereal by accident, it was in a clearance bin for a dollar.  I like it a lot and so does DH.

Still having a major sushi craving which will not be sated any time soon.  While rummaging through the freezer I saw I had some Krab sticks and decided to make a California Roll rice bowl of sorts.  I made sushi rice and topped it with Krab, pickled radish, avocado, Quirky Fuirky and a mix of mayo and Sriracha.  It worked.

Yesterday, I happened to get to a favorite bakery early, and they had something I don't see often at their place in Essex Market - Kaiser rolls! And immediately decided that breakfast was gonna be a sorta classic...

IMG_4168.thumb.jpeg.6239f149f677f59d310294847116c359.jpeg

The aged gruyere melted beautifully, and that is D'artagnan's "Mangalica" ham. Fancying it up even further (but making it look as bad as possible)...

Jamon, egg, cheese and avo on a Kaiser roll. Was very good.

@Duvel – that is a lovely potato pancake – just how I like them to look.  Would you share your recipe?

This morning:

IMG_5959.thumb.jpg.2651f4a67edd5dce9068d4e06e0f8ad5.jpg

Finally did some hard cooked eggs (I’ve been missing them), pineapple, bacon, and toasted pita bread.  Not hard to tell which egg is from my SIL’s free range chickens, huh?

Sure !

3 large potatoes, peeled & grated

1 medium onion, grated

1 large egg

1 tbsp AP flour

salt, pepper, garlic and pinch of nutmeg

Grate the potatoes & the onion. Mix with egg & flour, season. Wait app. 15 min, the fry (best done swimming) in oil, clarified butter or - like my grandma used to do it - in lard. Flip 2-3 times and remove once the edges crisp up ...

Breakfast :

mise :

Mise.thumb.jpg.93daef0d9bcd40fce349cb48668b033a.jpg

Dave's PowerSeed , CSO'd  ( 1 gm added sugar )  CSO does a very nice job on these seeded breads

Cedar's original humus , Tj's Kalamata EVOO , green tabasco :

unimpressive looking .  delicious .  was going to add a few thinly sliced rings of Red Onion

but was too lazy.   would make a petter pic , and add a dimension similar to red onion on Bagel

CrCheese  smo0ked salmon.

next time.

Breakfast , Improved :

DSC09426.thumb.jpg.a190700deac8d22c26fb732538507a32.jpg

Outstandingly Delicious , and Easy

I will not be able to improve this , in any way, it's that good.

the red onions I keep in the refrigerator , and after cutting , they continue to grow

and can get to be a bit harsh.  I slice these thinly and gave them a soak in cold water.

the harshness ( you can look it up chemically if you like ) is fortunately water

soluble.

I though of adding some capers , then said no ,

This Is It.

@Duvel – thank you for the recipe.  I’ve put breakfast for dinner on the menu plan for next week and those will be perfect!

@rotuts – never thought to put hummus on anything but pita-type bread.  But that looks great.

This morning’s breakfast build – toasted sub roll and ham:

With a couple of eggs:

After the squish:

Sandwich turned into a fork and knife affair.

Rancho Gordo beans, egg.  DH has initially asked if beans were under cooked.  The beans were perfect.  It’s just that the texture is different from mealy supermarket beans.  Rancho Gordo beans are toothsome.  Broth was incredible flavorful.

MarketBasket has gone back to their regular hours :

7 AM.   but they are open earlier

went back this AM , Sunday

which used to be my regular day.   6:40 am

people in the store , not many ;.  deli crew was slicing

and some of the shrubbery was out in the produce section.

they take in the ' loose '  shrubbery ever night

Lettuce , green onions , chard  etc.  for some reason.

I got this from the Hot Food Section :

DSC09438.jpg.25460307a5e4addfec4ee9b5004e1e35.jpg

they are freshly made nat that hour.

if the sausage versions are not out yet ,

they make what ever I want right then.

same people doing the assembly as before.

10 times better than McD.  fresh , better ingredients.

OK : 7.23 times better .

delicious.  I used to get several on Sundays , and they do fine refrigeerartred

and reheated in the AM.

I havenet had these for the last 1`4 months.

nice.  everybody wearing masks , store , as usual Sundays that early

is not crowded.   check out folks at their stations

nice .

@robirdstx

Id like to complement you

on that Poached Egg.

It looks perfect.

everything about it.

we focus on the yolk , of course

because its so delicious.

your looks perfect : runny , but in no big hurry.

lets not forget the  Whites !

for me , PE egg whites

have a thin exterior w some bite.

Im sending you Kudos

for your prep.

not to say there is no room

for improvement.:

unless you are a

serious footplate licker

for th yolk left on the plate

a true sin

Ive alway found the whole yolk

intact

fits perfectly   in the mouth.

Roasted Banana & Sour Cream Waffles from Julia Turshen's Simply Julia

IMG_3940.thumb.jpeg.26c1d5f28a7ec999b2bdea9d439c9906.jpeg

Very good flavor from the roasted bananas.  Texture was a little on the heavy side.  I used stone-ground Glenn wheat flour.  Probably should have used a different variety or used half Sonora.

@robirdstx – that breakfast of yours is absolutely perfect.  The white is what a white should be.  The yolk has the target viscosity that I’m after every time I try poaching.  And even your toast is perfectly and evenly toast.  I would happily sit down to that every morning.  I admit, I’d add a smidge of pork😊.

On Saturday Mr. Kim and Jessica brought breakfast home from a local biscuit place.  Honey chicken biscuit and cheddar tots:

Sausage biscuit:

Country ham and strawberry preserves biscuit:

This is an easy, delicious vegetable stew that's punched up with a lemony parsley sauce.

Can you tell me about the grain mix? I am always wary pf mixes due to what I think would be the different cooking times and how it all comes together.

Just realized that I got the name wrong,  It's Harvest Grains Mix, not heritage.  It's mostly pearled couscous but also contains small amounts of tri-colored orzo, split baby garbanzo beans and red quinoa.  The baby garbanzos stayed a little firm but everything cooked  appropriately in the 10 min simmer time given on the package.
