For one thing amazon sold this to me as a ribeye.*  Contrary to the label it didn't even taste dry aged.  For another, contrary to @chefmd I cooked mine before serving:

Satisfactory, but I don't care for possibly-dry aged strip steak being pawned off as dry-aged ribeye.

The steak does look great but I want that potato.  Broccoli or broccolini looks good too.  Love carbs.

Aw, you're too kind.  Don't know about stunning, but it probably would have looked better.  I have some, too, but didn't think to use them.

Another nice buchon called "Notre Maison". There's a cook and 2 other persons doing everything else. It's a young team and things are more relaxed here. You can sit anywhere, whereas at other buchons you can't.

Serving style is informal, like how I do it at home. The butter at this restaurant also comes with a knife in it and with the wrapping paper intact. Slice as much as you like.

Slow-cooked lentils with sausage. The sausage has a specific taste, similar to the strong taste of pork I had on the first day.

When you are done eating you get some booze. I think it's whiskey. You may pour as much as you like.

How they want you to feel eating here. Many French tourists are a bit shocked and delighted at the same time. I had done my research well so for me it was no surprise. I had a nice time here. The young crew is lovely.

There's a resident cat. Very affectionate creature, he has a path build on the wall. Non matching chairs are probably from charity shops or given by relatives and friends.

Went to a nearby (5 minute walk) trendy spot in Lisbon's Cais do Sodre district, Taberna Tosca.  I had the pork cheeks in a delicious wild mushroom wine broth, topped with crispy sweet potato shards....the meat so tender it fell apart with my spoon.  DH had a tempura shrimp pancake with green curry sauce....nice clean fry, excellent batter and sauce.   My pictures do not do the dishes justice.  

 

Excellent Portuguese red wines, meal with wine was 30 euros.

Family dinner the day after Passover eve. Persian dishes.

Ghalieh Mahi - pan-fried fish, stewed with feungreek, herbs (coriander, dill, parsley), caramelized onion, turmeric, chili.

I had myself an omelette with nuts and cheese, served over the base stew.

"Green" rice with dill, onion, peas, cranberries, aniseed, turmeric and more spices.

Fresh fennel salad, with walnuts, ewe milk feta, toasted walnuts, olive oil, orange zest.

Tahdig - the rice crust.

Tonight was supposed to be a night out with my little one: he picks me up at work, we go for sushi in Central and then back home. Unfortunately, he did not feel so well and just wanted me to come home and eat pizza. My wife said I could just order in, but ... 

 

Selfmade pizza is more tasty and faster (with a bit of help, of course). 26 min later we were both very happy campers and the little one was feeling fine again.

 

Mission accomplished 🤗

Went to NC yesterday and the day before to visit my grandmother who is hospitalized.  I stayed at a hotel and therefore ate my meals out.  I had one meal and brought home some stuff from my very favorite BBQ joint in the world: Short Sugar's in Reidsville.  Also had a lunch at (not kidding here) the Sanitary Café.  The Sanitary (as everyone in Reidsville calls it) is just a delicious meat and three’s, country cooking type place.  My very favorite Yelp review about the place complains that there is nothing on the menu for vegans😂.  Anyway, dinner tonight was BBQ from Short Sugar’s and green beans, pintos and hush puppies from the Sanitary:

Gorgeous. Sub Rosa just got a great review from Bon Appetit: “Sub Rosa is not just the best bakery in Richmond; it’s one of the best bakeries in America”.  I adore this place.

I wanted to replace it for quite some years, but it still keeps going 🙄

Ottolenghi's creamy mustard cauliflower with leftover lamb and braised peppers and fennel.  The cauliflower's flavour was good but the sauce curdled.  We ate a bit and the rest unfortunately was deemed inedible.

There are 3 markets within walking distance from my lodging where I get all kinds of things for my indoor picnics. The "kitchen" in this flat is  only good for boiling water.

The countdown is on, so it’s leftovers and using up whatever else is in the fridge.

 

A few potatoes cooked with turmeric and curry leaves, leftover runny dal, leftover rice and freshly made chapattis. Served with mango and ginger chutney. One more sleep to Japan !

Stovies. Traditionally made from leftovers, but I had no appropriate leftovers so had to make some!

 

Beef, lard, onion, carrot, potatoes, S&P,  Worcestershire Sauce.  I would have liked some HP Sauce, but the foolish Chinese don't have any!
