Cinnamon buns. For my granddaughter. I made them and assembled them and she baked them and ate them.  Not all of them. She complained bitterly that she had no more room for more cinnamon buns. Oh to be that young, active and healthy again. xD

I made a pistachio layer cake, filled between each layer with mandarin curd, pistachios candied in yuzu syrup and crushed, and then iced with mandarin French buttercream frosting. Decorations will be freeze-dried mandarin segments and canded baby clementines.

And then I made a cupcake version of the same, for the inevitable whingers at work who'll miss out on the main cake.

But note to self; shutting your freshly-made cupcakes in the laundry so your dogs can’t get at them for the hour you’re out of the house isn’t very effective if you accidentally lock a dog in the laundry with them while you’re at it.

She ate them all, cupcake liners included. ¬¬

LOL Every pet owner can identify with that. I *do* love the wistful look on the one who's had to make do with a shoe, instead of cupcakes.

The dog does not look a bit sorry. I hope his/her stomach wasn't too upset.

The cake is a work of art, as are all your confections. I am in awe.

Don't ask. Eat it.

He's forgotten what he did by now but I bet his stomach remembers!

Get the newspaper out, roll it up and give yourself a big whack on the head.:P

Let's see how well you all know your Sesame Street characters.  Cupcakes befitting Grandpa on his birthday, done way too quickly but I ran out of time....

The grumpy garbage can guy - right? (Oscar the Grouch) Oh my kids would have been huge fans :)

@Kim Shook Yes! Those are silver liners. Convenient little touch that I didn't even know I had until it was time to bake.

@heidih  Oskar is Grandpa's middle name, and he can be a bit grouchy at times- in a rather colorful way.  So, it was a good choice.

He remembered it was a Sesame Street character, but thankfully he forgot that its the fellow that lives in a garbage can. Whew!  I'd never hear the end of it if he knew.

Gramps especially enjoyed the eyeballs.  Grandma got green frosting on her nose.   It was a fun night. xD

Macaroons

MACAROONS.jpg

Those are beautiful. How do you get feet like those ^ as opposed to feet (or non-feet; maybe just toes) like these:

cakewalk,

  Here is my recipe..

Macaroons              300 degree oven / convection preferably

165 grams 10X / confectionery sugar

145 grams almond flour

1/2 cup egg whites

3/4 cup sugar

color

Sift sugar and almond flour, beat whites soft peak & add sugar slowly beat whites stiff peak. Add desired color, fold in dry ingredients in 2 stages then mix with spatula until mixture when lifted flows back into bowl. Pipe onto flexipan if you have, when piping there can be a small point/ nipple on top but should disappear within a couple of seconds but if the point stays there you did not mix the macaroon mixture enough. I bang the sheet pan on the table 2 times then let them rest for 15 minutes.  Convection ovens make better Macaroons but conventional will obviously work, I have a rotating oven at work and they take 8 to 9 minutes. When I touch the tops of the Macaroon the bottom/ feet give just a little, just play with the recipe oven temp etc.
