son I think?  ;)   I love Pyrex measuring cups as I have neurological issues with my hands so they are  ideal for reheating things in the microwave without causing drama as they do not heat u on the handle at all. Show us what you buy.

OH I'm so sorry!  @Toliver  You are a good son, too :)

Good morning!!!

Guys didn't get home until about 6:30 last night and got up at 5 this morning.  I was planning on sleeping in a tiny bit until at 6:20 someone started riding a 4 wheeler near by.  A very loud 4 wheeler.

So, I'm up lol.

They want pizza for dinner so I'll be making dough later on and since I'm making that I'll probably make some white bread, too.

The guys got a few doves yesterday.  The barn kittens got the leavings after they were cleaned.  I think they were very happy barn kittens :)

Just came in from the garden

Happy Friday!

The guys brought home a mess of doves yesterday which we will eat tomorrow.  My goal for that is to have all of the side dishes done early so I can sit outside while we grill.  Probably won't happen, but it's a nice thought.

Anyway, along with hunting, they went down to the river behind the house and set lines to catch a turtle.  Ronnie wants me to make something awesome to eat out of it.   I'm thinking of turtle curry to go along with our new Curry Cookoff .  I don't even know if turtle curry is a thing, but it will be if they catch one 😎

So awesome, Shelby...thank you again.

Fishing for turtles...that's a new one to me....very interested to see how that transpires!

You have a beautiful piece of land there...and active water to boot...oh boy!  😍

Hum. have had several over the years jug fish for snappers here in the pond.  They used really "ripe" chicken livers for bait.  I've yet to cook or eat turtle meat so I'll be interested in seeing how you deal with yours.  And I agree, Chum deserves a spot on a calendar ,,,,beautiful photo!

the food pictures are OK but THIS is the best picture EVER!!!!!  I am in love - sorry Sinder and Smudge.  Though a pure bred reminds me of my shepherd/lab mix, Sarge.

Is there someplace you can submit it?  Garden and Gun?  Maybe they would take an article with pictures or a blog about the hunting?

What strikes me about dear Chum is the focus, drive  and concentration. I see it in herding dogs as well. Obviously my avavtar lab is so overly mellow as to have lost that but his predecessor came from champion hunters and was super keen. Looking forward to the dove treatment. In case y'all are not familiar this is a great site about foraging and hunting  https://honest-food.net/ I do not engage in hunting but I respect and am interested in well thought out activities..

Awwww, thanks everyone!  Chum says thanks, too :).  She's such a good girl.

It's Saturday!  No turtle :( .

Another cloudy, cool day.  Very fallish.

Guys are out hunting/working on the shooting cabin, getting it ready for deer season.

I started cooking around 2 yesterday afternoon.  I am slow when it comes to making this kind of food and when the guys get home, I'm easily distracted lol.

The eggplant were up first.

IMG_5241.JPG.71c1e79e4cfd8c13c07f0857f17ad140.JPG

Thanks @heidihrecipe again.  There are a lot of spices in this style of cooking!  I had everything except for the carom seed (google told me I could sub dried thyme) and the deggi mirch (I subbed crushed Thai chili peppers).  I used the food processor to whiz up the onion.  Here is everything mixed up and ready to stuff with.

IMG_5240.jpg.04bc435b00f9d0430b253b5f0b05a2cc.jpg

It was kind of fun to cut and stuff these cute little guys

IMG_5242.jpg.2bacfdbecf1a879f01dbe36da91812a0.jpg

Next I got started on snacks for the guys.  Sausage rolls are always a hit.

IMG_5244.JPG.15055c357daa08b63bff79c57d84f1aa.JPG

I know, @Anna N, I know.  There was cheese practically touching the rolls.  I thought that would be ok since they were distinctly separated by the jalapeño mustard.

Imagine my horror when I turned around and saw what Ronnie was doing:

IMG_5245.jpg.5656035474c4b9b0aa453d2e8b310ba2.jpg

I shrieked and slapped the cube off as fast as I could.

Disaster narrowly averted.

Next I got everything ready for the Thai pork lettuce wraps

IMG_5246.JPG.338a065edab6d361ca8b0c3536098042.JPG

I thought fried rice sounded like it would go good with all of this so I did the rice in the Instant Pot and then spread it out on a cookie sheet in the fridge to dry out a bit.

I waited until the guys went outside and I busted out my can of Spam.  Ya'll, Spam is GOOD in fried rice.  I kept it a secret until after a few bites had been eaten to make sure I wouldn't have a revolt on my hands

IMG_5247.JPG.7cab35c8530a557f106eeafc10ae6f8a.JPG

I turned the burner on for the eggplant and also heated up oil to fry some eggrolls that I had made earlier and froze.

Finished eggplant

IMG_5248.jpg.699a40f881162126b3839610e20cf3c3.jpg

And a plate

IMG_5249.jpg.1914818075b153808890cac94da65a43.jpg

I was very surprised when our hunter walked by the eggplant and told me that it looked delicious.  I mainly made them for me and to try something new.  Everyone ate it and really liked it!  Totally different than anything I've ever eaten.  Pretty spicy but in a good way.

I'm now drinking some coffee and debating on making some breakfast burritos.  I have sausage thawed out and even though our hunter leaves tomorrow morning, we will eat on them all week......

Thank you. But I am becoming more mellow in my dotage:

But I think that only applies to authenticity as it relates to other people not to me. So I’ll just take another Valium and calm down. I just can’t get that picture of cheese and sausage roll out of my mind.

Shelby, try your egg rolls in the air fryer.  I make spring rolls and put them in at 400 F for a few minutes....do a tester to see how long yours take.  In fact I will be making some for my dinner guests today and will try to document over on the air fryer thread.

Your little egg plants look lovely.  Those little ones turn out so creamy.  Having made them using all those spices you can now appreciate those multi spice containers.

I'm going to get back in the dip after while 😁

Good morning!!!

Our hunter is en route to the airport.   I am looking forward to a nap.

I made a whole passel of breakfast burritos yesterday afternoon which came in handy this morning.

Then, I started on dinner.

Onion dip and compressed watermelon.  The melon on the left was infused with rum.  I liked it.  Can't eat very many of 'em though lol.

Thanks for an interesting visit into your life at hunting time!  Chum needs some good belly rubs!

I forgot to document my spring rolls in the air fryer.  Nothing really spectacular.  Throw them in at 400 for about 8 to 10 minutes and these were quite small...using the smaller spring roll wrappers and about a teaspoon of cooked filling.  They were devoured.
