This may seem pretty mundane to those of you that have big Gardens but here I've only been able to have a patio container Garden. Two years ago we had so much rain that it drowned all my herbs. I was able to get to a good nursery yesterday that had some good ones and I bought rosemary, sage, tarragon, and basil.

These I will keep in my laundry room where I can control the watering. The basil looks kind of wimpy but I have high hopes for it.

@weinoo

that's extremely interesting.

Enjoyed looking over their site.

almost all rice is out of stock , I guess a season thing ?

when does new stock arrive ?

I might try a bag , once I decide how I might use it

vs  Dewat Basmati , which Im very happy with.

Yes - this was the first of the 2024 crop they received, I think.  There's still some 2023 harvest left on the site, but very little.  Stuff comes by boat and possibly takes a long time to get here.

Their rices are all most likely going to be way different than any Basmati, as they're short or medium grain rices.

Certainly nothing fancy or expensive, but I enjoyed using it ... this is my first such peeler.

I've used this type of peeler for about 20 years. It is definitely the best kind to use.

A Y peeler is the only kind I can use. DH hates them.

So we have both kinds!

I have both.

I don't see them as competing. For me, they have different uses. The Y shape is good for large, smooth skinned vegetables such as daikon radish or large spuds; the stick version better for smaller knobbly-surfaced veg such as ginger and some potatoes.

.,,, and another.

This one is fun. For tough jobs. One edge of the blade is serrated and tears through most things!

Had it for a few weeks but tonight was the first time I made bread with it.  Wonderful mixer.  It has a paddle like a bread machine paddle, but larger.  I think this mixer will be my default choice for mixing bread dough.

I received the mixer at no cost but space is always a problem.  In the end I relocated the deep fryer and am storing the new mixer on top of the blast freezer in the dining room.

My old Thermapen MK3 started to drain batteries down like nobody's business and it made me distressed. Santa heard me bitching about it and brought me an orange Thermapen One. While there's certainly no need to upgrade from an older model to the One, it is noticeably nicer. And it uses AAA batteries. My first use was to cook tenderloin steaks for Christmas lunch/dinner, and no headlamps were needed even though it was dark outside. The extra speed is also appreciated even though home cooks don't need it. Working in a professional kitchen where you might need to probe a bunch of chickens or whatever, the faster read time is real nice.

I also recently picked up a Julienne peeler. It does a beautiful job peeling carrots, parsnips, zucchini, and similar vegetables for soup and salads.
