And I was thinking Germany had cheap pork meat ... is this from a regular butcher/supermarket ? It definitely looks good, but(t) for that price I‘d probably only get roadkill here 😉

Yes, regular grocery store. I often find good pork prices at this store.

I also get the pork butt at such a reduced price from Ralphs - A Kroger market. In my area which is heavy with seniors who got stuck in the "fat is bad for you" mantra so it gets marked down frequently. Your piece sure looked nice and "meaty"..

Dinner was messed up last night.  The original plan was to get sushi take-out since that is my niece's favorite food and she returned to college today, but the restaurant was unexpectedly closed.  So, then I decided to cook dinner, but right as I went in to the kitchen, the power went out!  We finally got it back a few hours later, and by then everyone was starving, the house was cold, and it was too late to cook the meal I had planned.  So niece got banana pancakes and bacon, nephew got quick ground beef tacos and black beans from the freezer, and I made a simple tomato-ricotta pasta for my sister, my husband and me.

Nice. I think the merguez is the best of the D'artagnan sausages. A few of the others fall flat.

Oh yea? Do you remember which?  I think they also had venison, andouille and maybe duck.

I've not had great luck with duck & armagnac, venison or any of the chicken sausages. Andouille is passable, and the big French garlic is also okay.

We get pork butt maybe 2-3 times a year at that price. But I can get it at $1.49 nearly every other week. I have a three-pound bag of roasted pork shoulder, cubed, in the freezer now, and another six-pound butt in the freezer from the last 99-cent sale.

Garlicky clams with spaghetti. Not the classic recipe. I used beer instead of wine. A bit of chilli flakes, salt and black pepper and that was it. Could have used some parsley or coriander leaf, but I didn't have any. It was fine!

Interesting - would you make it again had you had wine on hand?

I did/do have wine on hand. It was a deliberate choice to use beer this time. It's something I do from time to time for a change.
