New house, new kitchen

It looks to me as though the microwave / range hood is on an interior wall, so it's unlikely to vent outside. That's something I wish I'd had, but we didn't think of a way to do it until after our kitchen remodeling was done.

It is possible that, if there is a hood above the stove, it vents to outside.

It looks like there is a vent above the sink area. I am assuming the ceiling floor joists run from the stove wall to the window wall. That makes it easy to run a duct from the hook to outside.

It begins. Moved a trailer load of boxes today, and the crew shows up at 9 tomorrow for the big stuff.

95% of the kitchen is moved. Looks like I'll use every bit of that storage space.

I'll see y'all in a couple of weeks when I dig out. Will post pix once all is in place.

Ha, you will be busy sorting and organizing! Looks like you already have a plan on the general organization though, I see stick-it notes on some cupboards/drawers.  🙂

I don't see the CSO.

It was still in the back seat of my car. Which, come to think of it, it still is.

Today: this is the definition of terror -- two daughters who don't cook organizing your spices.

Must be nice to have a back seat with a power inverter.

Better?

Update on kitchen, with photos, later this week. Still have boxes I'm dodging and art to hang.

But we're making progress.

As promised, pix of the new kitchen.

Overall view from den. The island could stand to be a bit bigger, but it does have a drop leaf on the stove side.

Catchall counter for groceries, etc., as we come in. Can't find the art I wanted to hang on this wall. :(

CSO, cutting board, some produce to left of sink.

Coffee station to right. I use mostly refillable pods. Coffee grinder lives under sink.

Spices after the girls got through going through and organizing them. These pilots are Da Bomb. Both pantries have them.

The other pantry.

Baking area.

Still a bit of cabinet reorganization to go as I get used to cooking here.

Oh it's SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!  You make me want to throw all my stuff in my cabinets on the floor and rearrange and paint lol.  It looks like a dream to cook in.

PS--I see room for another CSO.

Just sayin'.

It’s a beauty alright!

where is your main prep space?

I see your island is on wheels which will be very useful.

you may end up switching the bottles of oils and vinegars to one of those pull out drawers so you can access all of them easily.

i have said bottles in a deep drawer that is divided into four compartments.  It’s easy to recognize ingredients from their lids.

The pullout drawers aren't tall enough for most of the bottles. If I have a complaint about this kitchen, it's that many of the cabinets and shelves are too narrow or too short to be truly useful. But, I have managed to maximize space as much as possible

It seems that main prep space is turning out to be the space to the left of the sink, where the big cutting board is. To some extent, on the other side of the sink. I've always been a prep-near-the-sink person. On the other hand, the spice/condiment cabinet and pantry is near the stove so's to be handy for seasoning. Flours are all in the two cabinets above the mixer.

The red bucket on the catchall counter is the mail bucket. The platter/tray there my daughter says has to go, as she has always hated it. I need something else red.

I did not shoot this photo, but the den is looking the other way through the kitchen from the overall view I showed you. When I sit in "my" chair (the aforementioned fainting couch), I look directly into the kitchen. Which requires me to keep it clean. So I'm disciplining myself to clean up and run the dishwasher, not just stack dishes in the sink after dinner.

And this may come out of the new kitchen tomorrow, as I have all the makings. Well, I have Parmigiano instead of Pecorino, but it ought to fly.

But did you see  that the casters are lockable casters? ( I have an eye for details :B )?  A very important consideration even for 100 % level floors.
