Breakfast 2024

So many inspiring breakfasts that I know would love.

@Kim Shook, my idea of the perfect breakfast though would be your pain au chocolate.

Moe is still recovering from dental surgery, but was able to eat this

Caprese Salad with Burrata cheese for breakfast.
And a couple of thin slices of sourdough baguette for dipping.

血肠法棍 (xuè cháng fǎ gùn).

Chinese blood sausage on baguette.

Sausage is made of pig's blood and glutinous rice.

As we are visiting family in another city we had breakfast at a nearby breakfast place… this was my Bircher muesli which was very nice.

My plan was to make this Soy-Butter Bok Choy Pasta from Tenderheart and put a jammy egg on it but I got a surprise bag of mussels in my fish delivery yesterday and I needed to use them so mussels for breakfast...or brunch as it was around 10 when I ate.

Of course, I put an egg on it! Also greens underneath and tomato wedges on the side.  And I used a punchy mustard vinaigrette I had leftover from a recipe in Grist

You know we're all waiting for YOUR cookbook to come out, right?

If anything, just so we can cut out the pictures and hang them up!

Awww, what a sweet comment to read on a Monday morning!  I think I'm a decent editor but I'll never be an author!

Today's breakfast was the last slice of the galette I made last week with a few olives and tomatoes:

@Ann_T – I’m still catching up.  I hope Moe’s dental surgery went well and that he’s eating more like he likes now.

A couple of recent meals:

IMG_6426.JPG.31e403d354734a2184f739657e2e43e2.JPG

Toasted Lidl baguette and sage sausage.

And another…

Toasted Lidl baguette, scrambled eggs with catsup, and Jones link sausages.  I love these sausage links so much and they are SO hard to find.  Everyone has the already cooked ones, but almost no one stocks the raw, frozen ones and the ones that do run out so fast.

Today – late breakfast:

French toast from the freezer, scrambled eggs with cheese, Benton’s country ham, and a tiny mandarin orange.

We went to Hawai’i (Honolulu) for the first time last week and a friend strongly recommended Koko Head Cafe. It’s run by Lee Anne Wong, who was on the first season of Top Chef, and of course has done a lot of other cool things since.  After consulting with our waiter we shared the Koko Moco and the Miso Smoked Pork omelette with hash browns. The mushroom gravy on the Moco Loco I could eat by the cupful. The pork was what I always hope Kalua pork will be-intensely savory. I love really crisp hash browns and this block delivered while being perfectly cooked on the inside. (You can see I had a test bite before I remembered to take a picture.)

A really delicious and fun breakfast and good start to our day spent touring Pearl Harbor.

I've been on a breakfast wrap roll for most of the last week.

Thai inspired wrap with egg, shishito and Thai chilis, Thai basil, green onion, lettuce and cheddar on a 'tomato' tortilla. Fruit, V8 and coffee on the side.

Egg, mushroom, Italian hot sausage, green onion, Italian parsley and cheddar on a 'spinach' tortilla with an orange, V8 and coffee.

Leftover meatloaf, Comte, cheddar and green Cholula on a 'spinach' tortilla. Blood orange, V8 and coffee.

Corned beef hash and egg.

I heated the hash in a cast iron skillet then made a well. I cracked an egg into the well then under the broiler to cook the egg. One more time tomorrow.

Eggs soft scrambled with Italian parsley, dill and chives, blood sausage, blistered Shishitos and toasted WW naan.

Lots of interesting flavour combinations. An orange, V8 and coffee on the side.

Huevos manchamanteles? Leftover sauce (with sweet potato, apple, and raisins), over-easy egg, and a fried tortilla, topped with diced cilantro and pickled jalapeno. Basically, huevos rancheros topped with mole rather than ranch sauce. I might do that again tomorrow.
