海鲜炒粉 (hǎi xiān chǎo fěn). Stir-fried rice noodles with seafood (squid and shrimp). Also garlic, chilli, and some napa cabbage, beansprouts and a little pork that were demanding to be used up.

So, after a busy (but mostly fun) day I've arrived home with about an hour before I have to leave for a fun evening. Oodles of chores to do. Not much time or inclination to cook.

20241107_172012.jpg

I'm getting a bit tired of tabbouli on its own, or even with hummus (not shown here), but a quick dinner salad with tabbouli as a topping, then tossed with croutons and salad dressing, just hits the spot. The salad dressing and croutons went on after I snapped the picture. The only disadvantage to this very quick and very filling dinner is that it isn't very warming. And it's getting cold here! I'd have a fire going if I planned to stay home.

A couple of dinners we had recently.

The first was two different sorts of pork just fried in the pan till done. Both were tender. With salad, which included yellow beetroot and radishes and a nuked potato.

Another dinner below was sausage and mash with a baby cauliflower, corn and the yellow beetroot and radish. DH made the gravy which I thought was too thick but I didn’t mention it as it is not so bad, and I do appreciate him helping.

I am in the same boat, Smithy, I love salads but as the weather turns cooler, they don't hit the spot in the same way. I try to keep some soup on hand to have alongside for the "warming factor".

Might look like the dogs dinner but- cilantro rice,  black beans,  layered enchiladas with moose. I make layered enchiladas each fall for partner to take to hunting camp,  I was craving them so I raided the freezer stash.

Sausage and Lentils with Mustard Sour Creme - First recipe from Ottolenghi’s new book “Comfort”. Sear a few sausages. Sauté some celery, green pepper, onion, swiss chard stalks, garlic, thyme, bay leaf, cumin and tomato paste before cooking it with puy lentils in chicken broth. Once the lentils are cooked, puree a small amount to add some body and briefly warm up swiss chard leaves and sausages. Finish with some parsley and serve with mustard (dijon and whole grain) sour creme and crispy onions.IMG_0953.thumb.jpeg.64d0124df0e35a8b1c610b6cd60f8668.jpeg

Rack of lamb.  The grill at our Tucson house is new to me and its rack is too close to the burners IMO.  I had to watch it like a hawk.  It got a little past medium rare, but remained tender.  Kudos to Costco and their NZ lamb.

Side was pearl couscous salad with persiana cukes and grape tomatoes over arugula.  Dipping sauce of chipotle molido mixed with cherry preserves.

I’ve been absent for a while, but I’m still kicking and cooking. I bought the Meera Sodha book “Made in India:Cooked in Britain” and I absolutely love it. Here’s her Jaipur Slaw, and her mums chicken curry with garlic beans, rice, tomato chutney and dal.

Red Lentil Curry - red lentils are cooked with diced red kuri squash, shallots, garlic, fresno chili, ginger and curry powder. Quarter of it gets pureed before finished with lime zest, honey and cilantro. Served with lime-yoghurt.

Grilled a big porterhouse steak for dinner last night served with sides of roasted potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and zucchini.

The steak was even too big for two so we shared the tenderloin side and part of the strip loin
and saved the leftover for Moe's breakfast.

Caught up reading a few pages of amazing food.
Now, for some of the meals we've had:

Lean ground beef on sale at one of the stores, so made up a bunch of meatballs. Had these with jar of marinera sauce and pappardelle.

A new European grocery and tiny restaurant opened in the city. I went in to buy mix for potato dumplings, and came home with these Moroccan Lamb sausages, made on site. The texture and spices were good, but they were way too salty! We could eat one each - and thankful for the sauteed cabbage and couscous                               .Moroccan Lamb sausage7128.jpg

Time for paella!

And Persimmons are in the stores! Great for dessert time.

Haven't been able to find these in town for quite some time. Was happy to find them at the new European store.

We love these with stew. Made a big pot and 8 dumplings. Shared 3 servings with my brother, s-i-l, and their grandson.

Been trying to get the rest of the outside stuff done while we had a day of double digit temps. Shrimp and Udon Noodles made for a quick supper.

Cheesy Beans and Kale - kale and beans (cannellini and great northern) are braised with garlic, rosemary and red pepper flakes in diluted aquafaba. After cooking, parmesan is added and some beans are mashed to get some creaminess. Finished with more parmesan and served with wiener wuerstchen.

Another dinner below was seafood with rigatoni in a tomato based sauce.
