Trader Joe's Products (2017–)

some time ago , I used to make steel cut oats for breakfast , with milk , not water

that was the reason I got my first fuzzy (rice and more) cooker.

I saw these @ Tj's

ant thought Id give them a try.  N.B.:  rolled oats , not steel cut.

followed the directions , 1/2 cup ingredients , and 3/4 cup milk , not water .

hot @ two minutes .  however , the bowl needs longer too ' steep '  than indicated.

tomorrow Ill just leave it in the micro for a bit , and reheat if needed.

note the ingredients :  no added semi-lethal ingredients !  and , as you might guess

pretty tasteless w/o amendments .  I can imagine what this would taste like plain , made w water.

I added some Tj's honey , a knob of butter , some dried cranberries

IMG_4643.thumb.jpeg.e3e10011594b78e33a50a7a4ce190e59.jpeg

and eventually some fresh blueberries :

IMG_4648.thumb.jpeg.fb9000c0ffd64d645086f19bbc5e7023.jpeg

I added my personal salt , and this needs salt.  but its nice ConAgra is not dosing your salt.

over all , out of the pouch , this need a lot of help.  ' Healthy ' usually needs help.

but its chilly now , and hot cereal is pretty nice .

and this is very easy to prepare.

and sticks with you.

another miso from Tj's :

IMG_4660.thumb.jpeg.29b0dc10615b95141e2a6bb9e951cbd7.jpeg

it has a similar salt content to the white mozo

and citrus flavors along w a little sweetness .

it might be nice on grilled // broiled salmon and such .

Bummer.

visited my Local this AM :

no walnuts , chopped or not chopped.

forgot to ask , so gave them a call :

they were surprised :   due November 15th.

so if you use them regularly , and see a pack or 8 on your Local's

shelves : snap them up.

now I have to look up " Nuts :  what's tasty and not so bad for you "

Bummer.

NY Times Wirecutter named TJ american cheese slices the best.

And this is why Wirecutter is terrible at ranking any foods or food related products.

Yes.  But when they do an in-depth on something like room humidifiers, they do a decent job.  Especially if you also take a look at some of the other somewhat trustable sites.

As for the "devices," I prefer hands-on experimentation!

I would say Wirecutter's reviews are above the standard ATK reviews, but that's a pretty low bar.

I succumbed to an End Cap :

they are not particularly salty  ( a good thing ?)

and not particularly sweet ( possibly OK )

and could be cornier

but Im going to have no problem finishing them , toot sweet.

These nuts are really good. They're described as "maple spiced" but the primary flavors are rosemary, red/black pepper, and brown sugar which is an interesting and surprisingly good flavor combination. I think they just make one run of them this season so they sell out quickly though. As with some other seasonal trader joes products I wish they weren't marketed as a seasonal item so they would make them all year round.

I don't know if I really trust wirecutter these days. Since they make their money from affiliate links, I also wonder if that affects the products they choose to include in their ratings, but maybe the bigger problem with all products reviews is that companies make so many new models of their products all the time that 1) the reviews tend to be out of date by the time you actually go to purchase something anyway and 2) if they are reviewing the latest models, I doubt whether wirecutter/atk/consumer reports is actually able to use them long enough to test their reliability adequately.

A couple of days ago I heard the siren song of the local Trader Joe's, and while picking out a cheese I saw these nuts which were shelved right by the cheese and dairy section.  I'd not seen this flavor cashew before, and I do enjoy some other flavored cashews, so I grabbed the bag.  As you may have noticed, the bag is empty. In a sense, that's my review other than to say that the ranch flavor is my least favored of all the flavored cashews I've tried. But that's more of a preference than a judgement of the quality or flavor.  I just prefer my flavorings more picanté.

Good luck with the walnuts!  Now that the weather has cooled down here, I can go to TJ's later in the day and hopefully find the hash brown patties I haven't seen in six months.

On your rec, I bought these, and agree.  The maple flavor is not overdone.  Thanks.

The Liebkuchen are in now, too.

HI.

I tried the Korean Beefless Bulgogi from the freezer section for laughs (been on a vegetarian kick most of this year now).  The overall flavor is great, even has this high-heat seared taste to it!  However, the texture was rather odd when I gave it a poke: a springy, spongy mass, with an unexpected familiarity to it.  As I prepared to take a taste I somehow instinctively gave this peculiar thing a couple shakes and then slowly came to my now terrified realization that I've recently (and certainly daily) handled something with such a texture before.

Anyone else dare try it?

In 2017 my local TJ's had Pickle Chips.  These were amazing, and then I never saw them again.  They showed up this past week!  I bought it to try - same flavor, although the chips were fried a bit more boldly.  Despite this, I'd recommend.  They also have begun carrying some horseradish ruffled chips, these are addicting.  Also recommended!  Sadly, mine did not have freeze dried mangosteen - only figs and mangos, and these are good.

I've not seen this before today. I grabbed one and may try it for dinner tonight. My favorite buzz words: spicy, Calabrian, smoked, sausage, grilled, peppers ... be still, my fibrillating heart.

If you survive, be sure to report back!

I have a huge backlog of Trader Joe's jarred products, so it's silly of me to wish I had ready access to a TJ's. Nonetheless, I do.

It didn't happen tonight. I had a major eye exam earlier, lots of drops, lasers, scanning, dilating, electrodes, shining lights, and a team of young ophthalmologists high-fiving one another upon getting the test results.  I spent the evening in a darkened apartment, computer screen at half power, and no desire to cook, eat, or turn on a light.
