Anyone done some planning or prep yet for Thanksgiving? At this point, I've got a loaf of (stale) bread in the freezer for stuffing/dressing, but nothing else done. Probably will have 10 people.

Since I do a "make ahead" turkey gravy, I'll probably buy turkey wings this weekend and contemplate doing that to get it out of the way.

Hardly anyone in my family will eat homemade cranberry relish, so I'll just throw in the towel and buy the cans.

I think I'll start dinner with a salad that includes butter lettuce, citrus, and nuts (maybe pomegranate seeds if I get a good one, which hasn't happened yet). I always make too many vegetables (I'm the primarily the one who wants them) but I'll probably keep it simple and just make roasted green beans with lemon zest, and maybe some roasted delicata squash with a maple drizzle (leftovers freeze well).

Mom will bring her reliable "twice baked" potatoes, stepson's wife will bring desserts (she's a baker, thank goodness). Sister will be requested to bring wine since I never know if/when she and her husband will show up, I can't put any critical tasks on her.😉

Menu is pretty much fixed by popular demand.  Turkey (prob sous vide), dressing, yams, au gratin potatoes, maybe braised red cabbage.

I couldn’t wait for Thanksgiving so I cooked a turkey a couple of weeks ago. I bought a few backs and made stock for the gravy. I’ve got a couple of pints for the real day.

Our Canadian Thanksgiving is long over, but you can't have turkey and all the dishes without Brussels Sprouts!

Hey!  Try a superior Montreal bagel while you are there.  (Sorry.  I couldn't resist.)

Well, Brussels sprouts have been done by my family for many, many years - but SOME people manage to escape eating them! 🙄

I've only seen LGBoD twice in Costa Rica since I've been here and both times they looked like the shriveled gonads of ancient hedgehogs. Not something I would ever want to put on my Thanksgiving table even if I was crazy about them, which I'm not. My daughters loved them so I always cooked brussel sprouts for them but @rotuts is right. If they aren't made well they can be truly vile.

You wouldn't have liked the Costa Rican version. Brussel sprouts are not grown Costa Rica and these had obviously come in on a slow trawler and spent a week or so in customs before they made it to the grocery Shelf.

which , of course , counts for 72 %

I have never eaten or cooked Brussels Sprouts with cream of any kind.  I've only eaten and cooked Brussels Sprouts in water.  I know - boring.  Ed has been known to put some kind of gravy or curry sauce on them...it's true...he doesn't like them.    I like them naked or with an olive and lemon juice dressing.  I've also been known to eat leftover LGBoD cold from the fridge.

I usually made a cheese sauce or hollandaise sauce. My kids would eat anything if I put a cheese sauce on it.

Now that's an excellent idea.  We often have a steamed vegetable plate for supper ...we eat our big meal at noon...and for Ed I always make a cheese sauce.  For me, it's olive oil and lemon dressing.

Love your description!  We like LGBoD, but not on 🦃Day.

We halve then caramelize until almost charred (with shallots), often adding Indian spices to them as a side.  Other times we incorporate into pasta dishes with pancetta, prosciutto or good ole bacon.

Have tried shaving them thin to use as a salad base, but not worth the risk to fingertips.

Halved, roasted until dark, cacio e pepe treatment (LOTS of freshly ground pepper) is our favorite (but not served for Thanksgiving). As a child, I don't think anyone thought to make them any way other than boiled/steamed (green meatballs, as DH calls them).
