Roasted a small chicken

and served with fries and TBQ sauce.
 
I recently bought another CSO that I found listed on our local FB Marketplace.
I bought to have at work.  Should have done this years ago. 
 
Roasted the chicken at work so only had to make the fries when I got home.

Neither my niece or I enjoy turkey, so on Friday while everyone else was enjoying the Thanksgiving leftovers, we had salmon lettuce cups with rice and cucumber salad

Last night my nephew cooked for us.  He made a butter chicken with maharajah rice and paratha

Chicken, black boletes and gingko nuts. With rice.

 

The chicken was marinated overnight with Shaoxing wine and Chaoshan fish sauce, garlic and chilli.

Fettuccine with Mushrooms, Mint and Chili Oil from Back Pocket Pasta - Mix of mushrooms (portobello, king oyster, shiitake, oyster) and thyme gets sautéed before adding and cooking down red wine and finishing with parsley, mint, egg yolks and chili oil. Served with fettuccine

Thanks for the suggetion. I will look into it.  I had a full sized one a while back.  I used it until it fell apart.

Our back door neighbors left a box on our porch with a Christmas card.  The box contained three pasta packages with snowflake, snow men and sleds shapes and directions of what to do with them.  I was a little hesitant about doing pasta kits but I have tried two now and they were pretty good. One was chili. I hoped it wasn't going to be a version of Cincinnati chili.  It wasn't. That was a couple days ago. Today I got some frozen tamales and steamed them then topped them with some of the left over chili.  The other one I tried was a chicken noodle soup. I used up most or the left over turkey with it.

 

While I was eating some, I was thinking about the time when I was growing up on Strawberry Hill. It was a working class neighborhood. Most people worked in the nearby stock yards or in railroad maintenance yards.   We lived in a second story apartment and my bedroom window over looked a tavern across the street. Every night a guy with a tamale push cart  would go around the neighborhood and stop at the taverns in the neighborhood.  (there were three in a block and a half on our street) Dad would get some for us from time to time.  I can still hear him calling loudly HOT..MALES   HOT ..MALES .

As much as I use (and love) the steam girl, there is nothing like roasting in a real, full-sized oven.

 

(The whole plate, rack included, from Trader Joe's...my Fresh Direct delivery never showed up yesterday).

I used to make this regularly about 35 -55 years ago, but stopped when I moved to China. No olives of any description. (China has what it calls olives but are a totally different plant and nothing like European olives.)

 

A few years ago bottled real olives, imported from Spain, made an appearance when there was a pizza craze. They are far from the best olives, but better than no olives. So, I started again.

 

Chicken with black olives, coriander leaf, chilli, garlic, and white wine. Served as I did before moving to the land of rice eaters, with rice.

I made 3 lbs of meatballs.  Here's 3 meatballs from it covered in a tomato sauce I whipped up from tomatoes my wife grew that were in the freezer:

Quite tasty, this is why I love combustion inc's wireless thermometer.  I cook these in the oven and pull when hit 160F so I don't get dried out overcooked meatballs!

Made the Hungarian Goulash earlier so when I got home from work yesterday

I just had to make the spaetzle and steam the green beans.

 

I couldn't find my spaetzle thingy so I made it the old fashion way by just cutting and sliding bits into the

boiling water.

I've had worse turkey than the 1 kg boneless breast thing that came in a foil baking tray and I've had worse gravy than the packaged chicken gravy heated in the microwave. Roasted carrots were decent, but the fennel fronds that were in with them were inedible and didn't really flavour the carrots. Mash with roasted garlic and jarred cranberry.
