After some big and rich meals lately, coupled with the first snowfall; I find myself moved to make soup!  First up  is my version of borscht.  Double smoked bacon really kicks this recipe up a notch.

Shrimps & octopus were bought cooked, and the croquettes were also ready-made and just needed to be fried. And if the oil is hot, one can fry whatever lies around 😋

The rest was done en passant, so all in all maybe 30 min. Normally I spend more time than that …

Lasagna with salad and homemade bread for garlic toast.

The bread looks like what I need for Oyster Po'Boys. It needs to be blond with a crisp exterior and light airy interior. I usually have to tear out much of the interior. I've tried many things to get the crisp light crust. Have brushed with milk and tried yogurt, mayo...

wet under the faucet and wrap in foil then into the oven. A couple bakeries in New Orleans supply the city. I've read it can't be done but we keep trying.

Stone crabs with homemade mustard sauce and sake

Oh have not had them in forever. Used to be able to get several pounds frozen at local markets at reasonable prices but have been deprived in recent years.  Yes also enjoy mustard sauce though I do it withsome good mayo.

I made Chicken and Apple Stuffing Casserole Sunday.

Boy howdy it was good!  The only thing about it I didn't like was the chicken tenderloins...they just dried out.  Next time I will replace them with thighs or with l'il Smokies because the rest of the dish was very, very good and the whole house smelled like Thanksgiving.

I will definitely make this again.

No pic because it really wasn't pretty, it looked like someone (or something) sat in it.

my mustard sauce recipe is mayo based with the addition of Coleman's dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, A1 sauce and heavy cream

Mushroom asada may need explanation. I did loot up. Did you use portabellos or another larger meaty shroom like King Oyster? The other elements don't trend Mexican though I like them. Perhaps I am thinking falsely of  only carne asada and such. I'm there at your table though ;)

What kind of apples did you use (my question mark has stopped working so forgive me)

Rutabaga greens & ham, creamed red potatoes and corn bread.  As a kid this would have been a typical dinner ( served at noon) with supper being leftovers.   The cornbread slathered with Kerry Gold butter will never see the light of day!

Looks like the cornbread cooked in a pre triangled pan? Like all the edges. I love all greens but have never had rutabaga -

indeed!    More info, please, on rutabega greens.   Not that I'll ever see them even at my farmer's market.    That said, any substitutes in mind?    Turnip, perhaps?

Schmorgurken-Curry - schmorgurken are a special type of cucumbers quite popular in Germany which are less watery and can be braised (schmoren in Germany). We haven’t found such “braising cucumbers” in the US but you can also use regular cucumbers. This curry included ginger, garlic, cumin, coriander, mustard seeds, cardamom, cinnamon sticks, turmeric, lime zest and juice in vegetable stock and coconut milk. Served over rice and yoghurt-mint dip and some nut mixtures for texture.
