what's the copycat's name ?

there is an Aldi very near me .

thanks

@rotuts, based on @kayb's comment, I picked up these at Aldi yesterday:

And, to stay on-topic, I did indeed snack on a couple of them while eGulleting.

They seemed to have a little less caramel & coconut than Samoas and the chocolate seemed sweeter and less chocolaty with an artificial vanilla smell but it's been years and years since I had the real thing so I might be completely wrong.

Still, not a bad cookie to enjoy with a cuppa joe.  $1.39 for this package of 18 cookies.

I went to Walmart yesterday to see if they had those cookies.  Walmart was closed and had been since Sunday.  Seems someone came it, took a fire extinguisher off the wall and sprayed a lot of merchandise before s/he was subdued.  Everything needs to be thoroughly cleaned and a lot of foodstuffs will be binned.  So I guess it'll be a while before I can check.

Had some leftover canned chickpeas in freezer. Defrosted, rinsed & dried well, olive oil, salt and powdered Mexican chile powder (just Ancho, Guajillo and Arbol mix) 400F about 20 minutes. best crispiest ever.

good to kno0w

😂 I just received a box of these yesterday in my Misfits order. 2 8oz bags for 6.99 that I thought was a bit steep. I like them, 😜, but I like odd flavors sometimes. I like to keep homemade crunchy crackers in the freezer but out of steam and too busy to bake and re-stock. I was curious how they compare to mine. The Amazon reviews are love/hate. Mostly love but those are parents with children with severe allergies and adults that have celiac or other digestive issues.

A favorite snack in my house. I've tried a few different spice blends and all are good.

I have a friend with an adult daughter, a parent of two young ones, with health issues including celiac. My friend would toss the box just from the smell. 🙄. So I took a hit for the team. Her daughter is very thin and anemic but has digestive issues that are a constant trial and error hesitant habit of avoiding so many foods that might put her in bed for hours in digestive pain. (she has had extensive medical help even traveling across the country to a well known specialist)

They taste mildly vegetal but not specific. More like a wheat thin than a cheeze-nip. Not too salty. My friend gets Misfits during the winter months so if it is a good snack for her daughter she will stock up at the great price from Misfits. (one pound 6.99) I don't calorie count but 50 crackers, though tiny, is a lot of crunch for 110 calories. Might be nice with a dip into a nut butter or a humus. I will most likely order again.

I would rather make my own but time is tight right now with Spring garden prep.

I had a massive 4 day migraine in my late 30's and in good shape having just played in the BrooklynAllStar game. Softball, first base.
Blacked out the windows, could not read or even watch tv. Primary care doc was first pissed we waited to call, then asked, "what are you eating". Cut out all processed food. Something chemical is a trigger. Never found out the trigger. Only whole fresh foods since. That is why I am an annoying label reader. 🙄. I wore a chain with a lovely silver charm disguised as a pill holder for years. Thinking I was doomed as a life-long migraine sufferer. Has never happened again. My grandmother suffered for years but that was the beginning of processed food she was not aware of in the 70's.

I went to Wal-Mart yesterday and picked these up.  It has been a long time since I had the Girl Guide Samoa cookies but I have to say, these are pretty darn good.  The picture of the cookie that @blue_dolphintook looks rematkably similar to mine.  I haven't had the "real" ones in a long time but I'm quite enjoying these.

I bought some cauliflower crackers at Aldi. Don’t remember the brand, because the box was hurled into the trash as soon as I tasted the first cracker.

Imagine you have boiled cauliflower past the point of mushy, drained it, mashed it and spread it on a cookie sheet with no seasonings whatsoever. Ick.

I tend to go for the brown rice crisps.

I made the mistake of buying a box of See's Peanut Brittle....

OMG, this stuff is amazing and I can't keep my hands off it.

My ex was addicted to it. I got tired of the cost and waiting in line at the local shop so I learned to make it Even put a marble slab in during kitchen remodel.

@heidih, is it possible to make peanut brittle so that it doesn't pull out one's dental fillings? 😋

Also not @heidih, but yes, it is possible!  I use the recipe from James Beard's American Cookery. Like @Kim Shook's recipe, it starts with raw nuts so they toast right in the hot sugar mixture for the best flavor. You also need to take the sugar up to the hard crack stage to avoid any stickiness.  Beard says 300F.  He also advocates pouring onto a warmed marble slab or baking sheets. This prevents it from setting too fast and gives you time to spread, flip and stretch the brittle so it’s wafer-thin between the nuts.
Finally, he cautions that brittle draws moisture so it’s important to store in airtight containers.

I've had good luck with freezing it.  You just have to double wrap it.

Yes, and better yet, you can make it in the microwave. Caution: you DO need a big glass batter bowl with a handle. Trust me on this.

clickety

Another tip: I use a wooden spoon to stir, and I coat it heavily with butter first. Also, I don’t use a greased cookie sheet, but just line it with parchment.

I make multiple batches of different nut brittles around Christmas for gifts.

How big is big? Anchor Hocking has a 2 quart, Kitchen Aid is 3.5 quart.

P.S. Directions say 1.5 quart
