@CentralMA Nice find on the Krunkake iron and love your encouraging the young baker. At least where I am (Los Angeles) going out to browse is not routine yet. Caution is in the air, which I respect.

Good find 😀

On another note, I notice you have a "chain mail" scrubber hanging up - how do you like it?

p

Love it! I use it on our cast iron, carbon steel and stainless steel pans (interior only). The best part is it’s super easy to clean and should, knock wood, never need replacing!

Two other items from the same yard sale.

Seems like a good quality  round bottom wok, with a good  quality stovetop ring.

And an older bottle capper, with NOS caps in the original box.

Pic of the wok is getting it boiled out, clean and sanitary. Handle has a maker mark on it, "SOSF. CALIF"?

Your wok looks like it may have come from SF iconic Wok Shop .     Well done.   If you feel like researching it, the engaged proprietors might be willing to discuss it with you.

Well you made me get up off my butt and go down to the basement (where most pots and pans reside) to get more info

Looks like the mark shows "ATLAS METAL SPINNING CO SOSF CALIF" with a large stylized A in the center. No other logos I can see.

Very pleased with this find. After the water boil I brought it down to the basement sink and attacked it with Barkeeper's. Pulled off the residue, got it to a nice surface. Then hit it with peanut oil on the flame to protect the steel. Hope to use it this week, get some more seasoning into it.IMG_20210904_213959738.thumb.jpg.47449bd94d0846bff4e62ec2bfb31e7a.jpg16308065230953714174228114411615.thumb.jpg.7208b234444d420524163a772267a05a.jpg16308065477002934929230122484924.thumb.jpg.db81f395874d57a45050a4b9e3fbafc8.jpg

I have two round ones. Love them. One almost alway in the dishwasher. I've had them about 5 years now. I have square one but it is a bit small. Size maters, 😜

Good score on the Bamix.

Not a truly glorious "steal," but I got a 1.8 liter Zojirushi "fuzzy logic" rice cooker in mint condition from the online classifieds for $50. List here in Canada for that model is $249 and actual retail prices range from as low as $149 (on sale) to roughly $179-$199 (regular price) at most retailers.

A good-enough price for something I expect to last me for many years.

Kijiji. I was typing in a hurry and didn't want to get into the whole Kijiji vs Craigslist thing. :)

It's something I've been randomly searching for every 4-6 weeks, for several years; but until now one had never shown up at the right price, in the right place, while I had the spare cash for a non-essential purchase. This week the planets just aligned for me (the seller was 15  minutes up the road from my mom's place, and we were already driving that way the next day to get to town).

Craig's List for canadians perhaps?

Gordon's list?

In Canada, eBay Classifieds (known here as Kijiji) are dominant, and Craigslist is a minor player that's...somewhat active in a few places. Kijiji has more ads in any of the big cities than Craigslist has in the entire country.

I picked up this Wusthof 6" Classic Chef's Knife for $2.00 this afternoon. The edge wouldn't cut butter right now but after a session on my EdgePro it should be a dandy little knife.  Most knives I pick up are purchased with my ren faire kitchens in mind but this one may just find a home in my home kitchen - because I don't have enough knives already :P.

Wusthof_4582.jpg

I have that knife and a few other Wusthof knives that I use often.  I had most of my knives done professionally seven years ago and since them kept them in good shape with my electric 3-stage sharpener from Chef's Choice, the Trizor model. I had an older Chef's Choice (EdgeCraft) sharpener and one of the abrasive wheels had cracked so I shipped it to the factory in Avondale, PA to have it replaced but instead they offered me the newly introduced Trizor at a considerable discount so I opted for that and found it was much easier to use than my old one, much faster.

I was familiar with the company because I had purchased several appliances with the Chef'sChoice label and had excellent service when I sent them for repairs (two Tea makers, my food slicer, juicer, and an egg cooker.)

I've always liked Wusthof knives for certain tasks, another favorite is F. Dick as some models have handles that fit my hand better.

This is a terrific find no matter how many knives you have.  I have far too many but I've always liked knowing that I have them if they are ever needed.  I've sold a few and given away several but still have about fifty.  A dozen of those are just paring knives of different shapes and sizes.

"There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world. There are those who say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty. The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What's up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don't think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!" Terry Pratchett

We took a day trip down to NC to pick up some BBQ sauce yesterday and wandered through a couple of thrift stores.  I found this book at either Salvation Army or Goodwill for 99¢:

I haven't even looked at a recipe yet, but I already know this is the most Southern cookbook I own.  Look at the suggested menus and occasions:

My recent under $5 rice cooker find. It just cooks rice, no keep warm, no tunes, no ding at the end of the cycle, no non stick coating. The cord had been undone for testing at the thrift I got it from, but as soon as I cut the zip tie it was apparent that it had never been unwrapped. My research indicates it is probably an early 1980’s model. It had one of the vinyl clings “Automatic Rice Cooker” still with it, but I think the cat snagged that while I was getting it cleaned up. Works perfectly, replaced the peeling non stick Aroma we had been using.95CBA620-487C-42C5-9255-65E0C7FDF001.thumb.jpeg.e5c137f1b5a18d677ae64803a393bbed.jpegE0DD39A3-E0B9-4F6B-A54B-3B9E9EB353A2.thumb.jpeg.5ccb4f935943d2d5dddc9d6437d2e76b.jpeg0A6972F0-7585-4AF0-9436-5D67044047ED.thumb.jpeg.31760a70d2cfe88b05070c21e31b6ad0.jpeg
