  1. Aluminum is used extensively in commercial kitchens because of its fast heating and quick response - it has numerous drawbacks but they are tradeoffs - if you want quote "fast heating and use little energy" then that's the route to go and they are relatively inexpensive p
  2. My take: - definitely work more efficiently with gas because of the vanes which provide a more receptive and in turn more dispersive environment for the gas heat - however as electric stoves use conductive heat a reduction in the contact area makes it less efficient than if they had a flat bottom - induction? the jury is out but I would guess the same logic as electric stoves would apply My take is always susceptible to corrections and outright denials p
  3. @Darienne - which model did you get - I hope it wasn't the Actifry, which I've heard mashes rather than stirs p
  4. Way back when (May 27) I posted about requesting a new tank and shield, well it arrived and looks nice - I haven't installed it yet as I've been otherwise busy p
  5. Didn't they have to invent the egg first? p

Jo you're the only one who has a "priceless Zojirushi" - the rest of us just have a regular one 😝 p
  14. I'm a firm believer in always buying the best available, assuming there are objective reasons for "it" being better, so my vote is for the 402 p
  15. Not enough flies up here (Orillia) to justify the expense. but certainly entertaining. If it worked on mosquitoes it would be worth looking at, but I understand that's only for experts ☺️ p

  18. @ btbyrd alright you talked me into it - I didn't need another chef knife and the set you mention was $20 CDN - I opted for the single 7.5 inch nagiri type for $15 CDN: https://www.amazon.ca/7-5-Chefs-Knife-22-Kiwi/dp/B00549RFIC/ref=sr_1_11?crid=2I7KTZPUK36ZR&keywords=KIWI+Knife&qid=1661368612&refinements=p_85%3A5690392011&rnid=5690384011&rps=1&sprefix=kiwi+knife+%2Caps%2C266&sr=8-11 p
  19. Speaking of choil - I ordered this from Amazon: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B007SPKPRI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I originally paid $15.00 and liked it so much I thought of getting another, but it was out of stock for months - back in stock but now $19.00 I ordered a second. The choil on it is about 1 mm and it has a flat cutting edge - not a great knife but extremely thin - great for vegies, cheese etc p
  20. I did, but it's not worth the trip - few pix but no real info p

    Rice Cookers

I believe the "Mixed Rice" setting refers to add ins such as vegies etc rater than mixed rice varieties if the rices require different cooking methods, I don't think one setting will do the trick, but as rotus has suggested, try it find out πŸ™‚ p

  24. I'm not in favour of technology just for the sake of technology, but my mw is a Panasonic with inverter technology which actually modulates the mw output rather than just cycling the power off and on - it's dead simple, a knob to tell it how long to cook and a start button, that's all you need to do everything that $4000 mw will do - however it does much more, defrost based on weight and set power level for slow heating. It has other functions but haven't seen the need. p
