Food recalls

I saw this a day or so ago.

Stop & shop  ( a large chain in the area

made the local ( google ) new feed as it closed its deli . and deep cleaned its entire deli area

and removed all its items.

then the second recall of all BH meat's

wonder if they had to do a second clean-up .

that a lot of meat and a lot of cleaning.

Im wondering if these large meat processing businesses have insurance for this sort of thing :

loss of product , loss of retail space ,e tc.

not quite like Delta's claim of 1/2 of a billion loss from the recent computer glitch

Legal Firms are thinking about bigger boats and newer larger vacation properties.

Back here in Canada, the Hai Yen Ocean Swallow brand of frozen, shredded young coconut has been recalled for salmonella. Currently affects BC and the Prairies.

its amazing and very puzzling that that plant wasn't shut down some time ago .

Boars Head is a private company , thus can't tell much about the impact , ie stock price

wonder what their insurance carries is thinking and how much this is going to cost the firm.

and , unfortunately , closing the plant affects a huge local population that depends on it

for their wages.   and the issues might have been fixed very early on.

... whereas now I wonder whether they can be fixed at all, short of gutting or demolishing the building, then rebuilding. I doubt Boar's Head will do that.

That's quite an article. Thanks, @FrogPrincesse.

I regularly read the health dept inspection reports for local restaurants.  Some pretty gross stuff is reported, but nobody seems to get sick.  There's lots of infractions even in places  that pass.  So I'm not moved by the high number of violations that were found at BH.

But the descriptions of the place show a spectacular lack of attention to sanitation.

Yet the feds didn't shut it down on sight.

Does this mean that they tolerate similar stuff at other deli meat places/ meat packers?

the Feds seem reluctant to shut down economic activity .

it would be of interest to see the complete record of any food processing facility

it indeed did eventually shut down

to see how previous violations mounted up.

substantially increasing the costs of violations might help.

but again , too much blow back Id guess.
