More meals for the boys' visit:

Bombay curry: Marinate boneless, skinless chicken thigh chunks with garlic-ginger paste. Make the spice paste of garlic, ginger, dried red chiles, peanuts, cumin, coriander, white poppy seed, canela, cloves, and turmeric. Saute onions and curry leaves, add the chicken and spice paste, and then simmer in coconut milk and chicken stock. Halfway through remove the chicken (to avoid overcooking) and add halved baby potatoes, Finish with tamarind juice. Sambal ulek to spice it up as desired.

Braised Savoy cabbage: Saute minced onion with sliced jalapeno, sequentially add ginger-garlic paste, cayenne, turmeric, crushed tomato, and sliced Savoy cabbage. Braise until done. There were fights over this.

Mrs. C made a delicious loaf of sourdough bread.

For those of you who live in cold areas and who have planned/invited big holiday parties, you may find the problem of where to keep all the food and leftovers.

For me, I have found that my car parked on the driveway, the trunk makes a very good roomy refrigerator.

Happy Holidays to all and Happy new 2026!

… we arrived in the small village north of Barcelona that my parents-in-law call home - still in daylight. As usual, noone expected us, so we had to live from the fridge (which luckily contained cold beer) …

Carlos's girlfriend was here for dinner tonight. So I made a seven layer lasagna yesterday and had it in the refrigerator ready to bake. I'm glad I had it ready because yesterday afternoon I came down with the mother of all colds. I guess that's my Christmas present.

I found ricotta for the first time in about 4 years and went a little overboard on that but otherwise it was pretty good.

Served it with green beans and bacon.

Watermelon, green salad and homemade bread, no pictures.

That looks delicious. Sorry about your cold - A friend and I went to a concert last night - Johnny Reid. It was a great get together but people coughing and sneezing were freaking me out!

Another dish from the “things in a bowl “ series. This is homemade turkey wontons in bone broth with bok choy. It’s topped with mung bean sprouts, coriander, green onions and fresh chilli.

Beautiful bowl of wontons in soup. I've never heard of turkey wontons but why not? They don't do turkey here in any way.

Christmas Eve dinner.
TourtiereChristmasEveDecember24th2025.thumb.jpg.127c8bd00d5ee343d56b00b79e8c4793.jpg
Baked two Tourtiere this year so I would have some to freeze.
I froze slices last year and Moe liked having them in the freezer for breakfast or dinner.

Served tonight with mashed potatoes with pork gravy, broccoli and Moe had his with the Chile Sauce I made last week.

Spiced Meat Loaf (from Season by Nik Sharma) with Braised Brussels Sprouts and Roasted Potato Wedges - Season has interesting recipes with often many influences and flavor layers like for this meat loaf. It’s made with ground beef, onions, garlic, ginger, garam masala, coriander, cayenne pepper, grated Granny Smith apples, mint, parsley, bread crumbs, eggs and Worcestershire sauce. The glaze is mix of ketchup, pomegranate molasses, light brown sugar, amchur and cayenne pepper. The brussels sprouts were quickly braised with shallots and vegetable broth. The roasted potatoes were pre-cooked and then roasted in the oven just with olive oil and thymeIMG_5635.thumb.jpeg.ca938d04f7354faa9e93c48eaf46f0c8.jpeg

Christmas day means nothing here, so I'm calling this Dinner on Christmas Day, rather than Christmas Dinner.

Salmon sashimi, uni and seagrass.
