Fish two nights two ways. First night crispy skin barramundi, broccolini and snow peas with potato chips and a good old dollop of caviar. Sauce was smoked cod and caviar.

While I was cooking last nights dinner I also prepared fish pie which we had tonight made with smoked cod, flake ( shark ) some barramundi and a few prawns. Topped with potatoes and served with broccolini on the side. Again a dollop of caviar because… that’s what we have atm.

Catching up after a weekend away.  Monday was swordfish fra diavolo.  It needed something green but I had not gotten a grocery delivery yet.

Tuesday (post grocery delivery) we had sesame tuna and veggie fried rice.  I shredded the last lingering cabbage I had remaining from the winter CSA, roasted it, and mixed it in with the rice about 50/50.  No complaints from the table so I will take it as a win.

Last night, continuing my quest to clear out the winter storage root vegetables, we had a Madras curry with roasted Macomber turnip as the main component.  My nephew was out for dinner last night or he would have objected to this meal, but everyone that was home enjoyed it.  Only three more turnips (about 5 pounds worth) to go!

Too hot already around here.  If it weren't for the garden, I'd really really hate summer lol.  And the mosquitos are the size of small birds.  I think I need to get some Rose and make wine slushes with the Ninja like I did last summer.

Venison meatloaf, cauliflower "mashed potatoes"--these were actually pretty good.  Steamed the cauliflower in the IP then whizzed it up in the food processor with butter salt and pepper.  Also some stewed eggplant and tomatoes

I was going to check on the bologna too! We love all things cured meat and I'd love a nice venison bologna recipe. @Shelby do you make any charcuterie with your venison? Summer sausage, thuringer, etc? Our local shops do a decent job when provided meat but they are not cost effective by any stretch.

We've done summer sausage a few times but it's been a while.  I'd like to make bologna, too.  Maybe I'll get myself motivated and do that soon.

' Not Fried Rice '

 

Mise :

sorry for the blur.  no Idea why the iPhone wasn't clear about its asignment

 

1 heaping cup ( USA ) of Dawat basmati rice , completely rinsed.  window green onion ( 2 )

 

Not Red home made char sui , diced   Red onion , diced   two eggs , beaten  

 

not pic'd  hand full TJ's bagged spinach , chopped roughly

 

into the 3 C Induction Zo.  when  the Zo ' jingles  '  , I open and fluff up.  my proportions for rice // water

 

are one heaping USA cup basmati rice , 1 1/2 cup water.   When cooked , the rice seems a bit wet.

 

but after fluffing , w the lid open for a bit , it ends up perfect for my taste.  firm , not wet

 

the 3 cup Zo does not leave a lot of head room , for Mix-Ins in the rice cooker bowl

 

so I use a SS bowl  Back in the day , I used to use my 10 cup Panasonic w 2 heaping cups of basmati , and had plenty of 

 

room for mix-ins.

some reduced salt SoySauce , and the chopped spinach.  I add the spinach to the hot mixture

 

' room temp ' and it wilts just a but , but has some crunch.  the eggs are cooked in a fondless , until firm

 

then chopped a bit.

Id be happy w this rice , in any restaurant in Chinatown.

 

forgot how tasty this is , and easy to make.

 

leftovers for breakfast tomorrow.

 

in the past , making 2 heaping cups , w more mix-ins , I had several quarts of this sort of thing

 

in the refrigerator for a few days .  eaten cold , during the humid summer :  very very nice.

That pineapple looks delicious!

 

No photo because I was starving, but I had a meatloaf sandwich with s/p, plenty of mayo and sharp cheddar. Potato chips. Pinot grigio because that's what was open in the fridge. Delicious. Meatloaf sandwiches might be my very favorite food.

This was inspired by myself after mentioning it in passing in this post this morning. Wanted a light dinner. Too hot for anything more strenuous.

 

Pasta with pesto (and a few olives I happened to have sitting around not contributing to anything else). Home made pesto from freezer; shop bought spaghetti. I prefer linguine but non ne avevo.

Poor Moe. Was on the liquid diet all day Wednesday, prepping for yesterday's colonoscopy.
He had something eat after we left the hospital but we didn't think it was a good idea to have a huge dinner last night.

So.......I made the intended dinner for breakfast today. Roast beef breakfast with

Yorkshire puddings, mashed potatoes, gravy and buttered peas.
Our favourite roast is the Sterling Silver top sirloin from Thrifty's.
But this top sirloin was from Glenwood Meats in Langford. This roast was as good or better flavour wise as the Sterling Silver and as tender.
Glenwood Meats, is an amazing shop. And it carries my favourite Peameal Bacon and now that I know I can order it in advance, we will be shopping for most of our meats at Glenwood.
They always have oxtails, and I found the country style pork ribs that I need for a favourite Paul Prudhomme recipe that I often can't find.
Since we usually get down to Victoria at least once if not twice a month, this will be one of our regular stops.

Vietnamese inspired shrimps and brussels sprouts - shrimps were cooked in coconut caramel sauce made by reducing a mixture of shallots, garlic, molasses, fish sauce and coconut water. The brussels sprouts were first charred and then cooked in some coconut water before finishing with soy sauce

Grilled lemon chicken with tzatziki sauce, a salad, and a recipe from a local bakery for puffy pita breads.  They look more like rolls to me, but everyone liked them.

Coconut and chicken stock soup with bay scallops and sockeye salmon, simmered with ginger (sub for galangal), lime zest (sub for lime leaves), lemongrass, shallots, and bird chiles, and then finished with roasted chile paste, fish sauce, lime juice, and Thai basil.
