Ingredients: liquid whole eggs, sugar, water, mustard flour, vinegar, < 2% cornstarch and turmeric.  

 

It is definitely not terribly sweet.  It's actually very eggy.  It would be great in potato salad.

it's a basic 21" kettle grill and a PITA to have to keep adding coals during a long cook but I have done it.

Back in the day (i.e. when I had a backyard and a kettle), it was a great way to spend a Sunday waiting for football to start. My favorite thing to do in the kettle was brined whole duck. But I'll admit, if there were other alternatives available, I might've taken advantage.

 

I just think doing them with hardwood and coal gives a flavor that's not exactly gotten via electricity or propane.

Just noticed this post.

 

They are rather short for cooking chopsticks. Mine are 16½ inches long. I don't get the 'tongs' reference. I've never seen them used like tongs. Can you clarify, please?

Butter for Germans is a must indeed, in some areas butter with chives is served as well. Mustard might come with the sausages, that accompany the Brezn, but not with the bread itself.

The Liptauer is definitely an Austrian treat; the southern German / Bavarian version is called Obatzda and is more rich and pungent due to the use of (ripe) Camembert instead of cottage cheese. Typically, one orders a portion of it and then the Brezn comes as an accompaniment. It’s pretty much a meal.

Is that a "shrimp" knife, because I seem to have replaced  misplaced my nice one (with a wooden handle like yours); I replaced it with an OXO and it sucks.

An entirely different kind of "fun stuff," but last week when I was in the supermarket I found a couple of packages of fresh morels that were marked down 50 percent because they were approaching their "use-by" date (and yes, just about every part of that sentence still fills me with wonder).

 

The same supermarket (Superstore, if you're wondering) also had heirloom tomatoes at $2/lb last week. They weren't as good as the best ones from my garden, but they were right up there with the "not-best" ones. Decidedly better than I would expect from a supermarket at this time of year.

I got home from my shopping yesterday to find a long stemmed flower in a beautiful vase along with a chocolate bar at my door, courtesy of my next door neighbour.  In conversation with her later, she told me the vase is mine to keep.

Finally able to head to Chinatown to pick up one of these (yes, I know they're available online but I wanted to support the Thai store.

Stocking up pieces and parts for a possible back deck off the living room I caved for a vintage Weber Silver sidewinder Natural Gas grill.

 

Craigslist, well less than $100 (though I drove an hour to get it, then spent too much $$$ at IKEA), and this grill looks like it's been used 5 times in the past 25 years, and cleaned thoroughly each time. Very nice gentleman seller, we chatted for a good 1/2 hour after loading it in the car.

 

It'll be broken down to it's parts, all nuts and bolts replaced with stainless, brass gas valves pulled apart and lubed. Repainted where needed to freshen it up. A rainy day endeavor. 

 

It'll outlast me, I hope.

 

Now I just have to build the deck....
