Spiced pork steak with edamame orzo and 黑皮鸡枞菌 (hēi pí jī cōng jūn), 'black skin chicken fir mushroom', Oudemansiella raphanipes, with garlic. Slightly over-seared the pork, but it was cooked internally just fine.

Okonomiyaki meets Jeon meets the content of family Duvel‘s vegetable crisper …

Daikon, celery, cabbage, leek, carrot, onion, garlic. Some mixed minced meat, marinated in Ssamjang, thrown in for good measure. Served with a dipping sauce of fish sauce, lime, maple sirup and sriracha. No complaints 🤗

I just had a craving for sloppy joes. Made some of Anne's hamburger buns and served it with beet salad, pasta salad with imitation crab, homemade cottage cheese with Russian dressing and boiled eggs. Made some homemade applesauce for dessert. Not shown. That's okay, it was tasty but not that pretty.

Another pork chop made in the NFG (I'm not posting them all) but thought I would post this one because I grilled some Brussels sprouts along with the chop.   They look really burnt but they were good.  They were marinated in avocado oil and balsamic.

First , my apologies :

IMG_0672.thumb.jpg.03499aba5db4e1b2bd0a710631884b79.jpg

something is wrong w this pic.  however , the soup ++ was very very tasty

and the best Ive ' added to ' in quite some time.  a keeper

Progresso Italian Wedding Soup

and as before , two chicken taquitos , sliced into 1/4 "  , and diced TJ's Parmesanish

however , I added three Campari tomatoes , from a blister pack @ Tjs's that I aged

in a brown paper bag w apples for a few days.   this tomatoes actually tasted like tomato

and had a serious crunch to them eaten plain.

they get 1/4'd and into the soup w all the rest.

i let there soup sit for a bit , so the tortillas can hydrate , then 3 + minutes in the micro

the tomatoes get ' just cooked ' and the diced cheese is partially melted.

still w some chew.

next time Ill chop up the tomatoes a bit finer.

they had real tomato flavor , and the acid was a nice contrast w this soup.

Kalamata olive oil after the micro.

this one is a real keeper.

@Tropicalsenior – that Sloppy Joe meal is outstanding and looks so perfect for a warm weather meal.  I especially love the idea of adding surimi to macaroni salad and topping boiled eggs with Russian dressing!

@rotuts – great looking soup.

@CantCookStillTry – that chicken was one chubby little girl!  Gorgeous!  As are your perfect roast potatoes.  So happy to “see” you!!!

Dinner was frozen chicken breasts stuffed with Brie and apple (the apple was not terribly apparent), Rice a Roni, and a new to me recipe for Brussels Sprouts Gratin from the PBS show Cook’s Country.  The sprouts:

I messed up by starting these in too large of a baking dish and I neglected to check on their doneness in time and they ended up overdone.  In spite of all that, they were delicious, and we all cleaned our plates!

These were from the same company that makes the Chicken Kiev that I buy, and they were much better than I expected.

Lazy days but  I managed to do up a couple of dishes for CNY: Sun Neen Fie Lok to you all!
It's the Year of the Tiger but the new year came in like a lion : blizzards, wind, and temperatures in the -35 range, with windchill of -50C tonight!

Tang Yuen New Years Eve: Some families have sweet version . We prefer the savoury. My sister sent out dried shrimp meat, larger then the usual "Ha Mi.  Lovely flavour and chew.

I had picked up a packet of 2 frozen abalone on the shell. Not worth the 16.00 I paid! Braised and shrunk! The canned ones was $75.00!

The fresh shitaki mushrooms were a nice change from the dried ones.

I bought over $200. worth of groceries, so I got a free box of cooked shrimp. They were pretty good in a salad. I deep fried the rest quickly and had them with peashoots.
