Happy Anniversary Ann and Moe! I am making lazy cabbage rolls AKA cabbage roll casserole in an effort to use a neighbour's gift of a gigantic cabbage as well as some of the 10 bs. of ground beef that my husband impulsively bought "because it was on sale!" I have asked before for him to please check with me before making large purchases of meat - but this "was on sale!"

Oh the 90 year old stepmother brought home a 65 pack of hot dogs from Costco before July 4th because "on sale". Nobody but her occasionally eat them in this household - then complained about lack of freezer space.

Happy Anniversary, @Ann_T - nice run.

Since I'm way jealous of all the beautiful food @Duvelis getting to eat on their trip to one of my favorite food-eating places, last night for dinner...

Fish cakes, a few meager potatoes, tomatoes and PA AMB TOMÀQUET! Which was the delicious-est part of the plate, unsurprisngly.

We stayed on the peninsula and drank this quite funky natural Portuguese Alicante...

Suggested crab cakes or creamed chicken over baked potato or "Asian" chicken and broccoli.    Husband countered with deep fried prawns and fries.    Well, okay.

He was right.    Jumbo prawns, juicy interior followed shattering coating.    Simple catsup/horseradish/lemon/Worcestershire dip.     Memorable fries.    Maybe chicken tomorrow...

A little green on the side

Strip steak, short rib, brisket.

Tacos tonight with chicken cooked in a tomatillo/poblano/onion/garlic sauce. The taco tray might go to the RV as it proved very useful for assembly and keeping everything from spilling all over. To test it we ate outside on the porch. 😄 Tomatillos are a newer ingredient for me - I’m finding them a bit unpredictable sweetness-wise - sometimes they’re pleasantly tangy then every so often it seems like as they cook they go quite sweet.

There’s some sauce leftover - I can’t decide if I want to do another round of tacos or get some nice steaks and just serve it on the side. Or perhaps mash it up well with cheese in quesadillas?

Wanted light dinner, and had lots of basil. So pesto is it. On the cheesy side.

I would usually throw in some green beans but not this. Made enough to freeze.

Local semi-dry muscat, pairs well.

Also some tomatoes and cucumbers on the side.

Faux minced squab.   The chicken that husband pushed forward last night.    Mushrooms, water chestnuts, garlic, ginger, red onion, soy and friends.   A spoonful of jasmine rice on lettuce, topped with woked minced chicken, cilantro

Pseudo-Indian today - roasted cauliflower tossed with oil and garam masala* and cucumbers dressed with Greek yogurt, and a butter chicken/palak paneer inspired chicken dish over rice.

* - AFTER I got everything ready I realized we were out of garam masala at home, so I found a recipe online and made a similar blend using what we had. (Which was everything except coriander seeds, so it tasted ok.) I need to place a Penzey’s order ASAP.

Home made spicy mango chutney with ginger and spices. Yogurt.

Simple comforts. Braised meatballs. Good pasta. I do usually toss in sauce...not important this go around.

SCarolina family is vaccinated but delta variant sick...on the mend. NewOrleans family with two toddlers and a grandmother on oxygen have evacuated...took her out of elder care.

Made a kick-as** humus. Crisp papadum. Veg for dippers...paper thin golden beets...might be the last stuffed squash blossoms. Nice veg meal.

Scallops with roast cauliflower puree and veg.

Perhaps I was a little generous with the puree.

Made a knockoff version of spicy rigatoni from Carbone.

It’s a version of penne alla vodka served at Carbone in SoHo NY (and Hong Kong and Vegas). Basically a vodka sauce with San Marzano tomatoes and Calabrian pepper paste, combined with an onion soubise.

Shoulder of lamb, Greek-style/"youvetsi". (Yeah, yeah. I know you are supposed to use a type of pasta called "Absolutely Not!".)
