1970s Dinner Party Recipe

But surely the saving grace is that after 45 minutes of cooking it would be tasteless and could be harmlessly ditched into the nearest plant pot. Or perhaps it’s the Seasoning that saves it?

I'm more wondering why I have to stand in a cool place for half an hour. I have air conditioning!

Good point.
I am trying to imagine bun-shaped rondelles made from spaghetti that has been cooked for so long that I can’t imagine it could still hold together. And what the hell is a bun-shaped rondelle anyway?

I truly thought I had a comment that might redeem this, but I just realized that it's 10:25 pm and I'm only up because I have to pee.....TMI..I know.

MINT on what ever the hell bun shaped things are with sprouts???

Nope.

I'm going back to bed and hopefully erase this nightmare from my brain.

Pizza Fish Finger … a good example how everything sounds better in Italian 😜

Fish fingers smashed due to a transport incident (it looked pretty much like the packaging picture before). Taste was actually ok.

I have some Dr. Oetker chocolate pudding purchased on the recommendation of a friend.  It is about fifteen years old.  Not sure how it would be on pizza.

Quite certainly “Laxative Mayonnaise” with the pectin, 2 teaspoons of mustard, not to mention the 1 quart of mineral oil! Just the thought of it has me twitchy about TP on hand. 🤣

"scrambled eggs, diced ham, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, with hollandaise style sauce on a croissant crust"

All of those things sound good together, though also like  a gut bomb, but I don't want to know what happens to the scrambled eggs and hollandaise after baking 😳

Very popular in Japan since the late 1970's, called Pizzaman (ピザまん). Available at almost all convenience stores and kind of a steamed calzone. For me, nothing wrong with that ...

In my neck of the woods a popular fast food is the Halifax-style "donair," a localization of doner kebab with a distinctive milk-based sweet-and-garlicky sauce. Its popularity has inspired donair pizza, donair egg rolls and donair perogies, and probably many similar things that I haven't actually noticed on my way through the supermarket.

A friend of mine picked up the package of donair egg rolls one day, pulled a disgusted face, and pronounced that this was "just WRONG!" She was very surprised when I told her that egg rolls (and sweet-and-sour chicken balls, and many of her favorites) were bastardized pastiches to begin with, so it was rather akin to being upset over a novel flavor of Cheez Whiz. :P

The younger generation! Mutter, mumble. End of civilisation. Grr. Stutter. Apoplectic rage!

Apparently there is a thing called Tik-Tok which has nothing to do with good old clocks with hands and clockwork mechanisms and certainly nothing to do with spelling.

No. this tik-tok is apparently a place for the young to display their vacuity and addiction to the trivial by posting short video movies showing the mundanity of their sad lives. And like the pandemic it respects no borders.

Thailand, a country I love is no longer the land of tuk-tuks, the motorized samlors used to transport the denizens of the capital to the next temple. Tuk-tuks are being forced out in favour of tik-toks.

Latest example to hit the detritus of modern communication and life enhancement is hordes of the sad offspring of the loins of the good people of Bangkok venturing  into branches of some outfit with the non-traditional Thai name of Burger King and request an off-menu item by the equally non-traditional name of a Real Cheeseburger.

This is purportedly a food item. It isn't a burger and it isn't real. It consists of a slightly sweet bread bun with the consistency of a sponge cake, in which rests in peace the contents of one or two packets of pre-sliced industrial paste mysteriously described as cheese, in defiance of etymology, renneculture and common sense.

The object of this exercise is neither nutrition nor the pursuit of gustatory satisfation but to video oneself consuming said item in order to prove oneself beyond a doubt to be as big a moron as your peers. Success in this venture will lead to hordes of people you've never met and never will meet voting to 'like' you. No one else will. The most successful not only get liked but get followed, resulting in some cult-like disciple ritual and you become a messiah of shallowness.

Mutter, mumble. Bring back flogging! A spell of conscription is what they need! Off with their heads!
