I think I'm winning the battle with the flu.  I don't wish this stuff on my worst enemy.  Lost my sense of taste and smell for 5 days. Super hard to cook without those two senses.  I don't know how people do it.   Luckily, that's back, but still have an excruciating sore throat and gunk.  Anyway, a few meals:

 

Made a tortilla stack with venison burger (was trying to eat as many hot peppers as I could to flush the sick out.....didn't work....and it tasted to me  like cardboard topped with peppers lol.  Ronnie liked it though.)

Ronnie was hungry for a pork loin, so I sous vide a little one and then seared it in the Darto pan

I needed to get up and move around--even when it felt like torture.  It's better for my mental state of mind lol.

If I were sick and lucky enough to have some broth in the freezer I would ask my husband to defrost it, make some rice, and then figure out how to combine the two.

Ok. So my Hub Keeps unusual hours, and while it's Wednesday (at varying times) for us normal folk, it's Saturday for him & his Buddies. His turn to host and I am assembling burgers. It being Wednesday for me I make 'em at a normal time... they eat 'em when they get round to it 😂

Look away lovers of Gourmet & Health. This is not it. 

Half were beef burgers with Jalapeno, Onion rings, Burger sauce with Bacon and Cheese and half were 'Quater Pounder' style.

Tonight, some pork medallions with simple boiled potatoes and garlic baked mushrooms. Could have done with a bit of herb, but it was too damned cold to go out. But I did have some HP sauce to brighten it up.

I had a burger with onion rings on it awhile back...first time.  I must admit the onion rings really added to the overall crunch and the onion flavour came through...but, yeah, who needs a fried onion ring on a fatty burger.....maybe one onion ring and one raw onion ring.

Do you mean battered / breaded onion rings?  I have never considered those on a burger. Raw, yes.

Ronnie's birthday was yesterday.  He almost always asks for the same thing--chicken fried venison steaks, taters and gravy and a veg of some sort.  Started out with some cheeses that I ordered from Murray's.

Both were excellent.  I liked the one above the best.

It was my first time eating that--it is GOOD.  I left it out all day but my house is cold and it didn't get as runny as it should have, but still very good.  Both cheeses were a splurge but we don't go on vacations or anything so I figure we can do some cheese now and then. 😁  And I have an obsession with runny cheeses.

Cossetting.    I will add that it is cold here.     49.8F degrees indoors when we got up this morning, now an almost cozy 58.5.    Potato soup simmering on tne stove as I type.    An apple pie going in the oven soon, so at least kitchen will get warm.

You simply have too much energy for any one person!  I can't imagine doing all that you do while being sick.

I'd like to catch some of that spirit.

Oh I slept a LOT during the day.  I don't know how people work outside of the home and get sick like that.  Like I said earlier....I don't know how to describe it exactly, but for my mental sanity I need to get up and have some "normalcy" in the evening or else I feel even worse.

Me too, it's one of my favorites. Have you tried La Tur? It is Italian, also gets very runny, a little bit barnyard (or sometimes more), a blended goat, cow and sheep cheese. Not a washed rind like Epoisses, so different.

Shelby I am glad you are feeling better.  I had the flu about 20 years ago and truly thought I was going to die.  I am first in line for the flu shot every year now.  

 

Last night we had portobello mushroom, poblano pepper, bell pepper, onion and provolone "cheesesteaks"

Dinner will be potato-corn chowder and a couple of salads -- one very trailer-parkish fruit salad (canned pineapple, canned mandarin orange segments, maraschino cherries, a dressing of mayo and sour cream. The other is a long time favorite of steamed asparagus, steamed (frozen, sadly) green peas, and mushrooms sauteed in the tiniest bit of olive oil available. Dressing for that one is olive oil and good vinegar, and it'll be topped with grated pecorino. 

 

Pix afterward if I remember to take them.
