The “layer” under the fried chicken is chicken leg as well (kind of spam or chicken ham) ?

 

If that sauce would have some bite, e.g. real Mala I’d give a try. But we know that bold flavors is not a hallmark of McD China (or anywhere) ...

Well, I'm certainly not going to buy one to find out, but I guess it's a Spam like concoction.

BTW. It's KFC; not McD's but same applies.

I can see why you'd think so, but I'd be very surprised. They don't do olives round here. I can buy them, but only low quality canned olives from the specialist import store (at outrageous prices). I'll have a closer look next time I pass KFC, if the poster is still there.

 

P.S. They do have Chinese olives, but they are not at all the same thing and a different colour, anyway.

OK. Solved the question.

 

What looks like olives could hardly be more different. It is either Chinese black fungus (aka black wood ear fungus) 黑木耳 (hēi mù ěr). Auricularia auricula-judae, or kelp (seaweed), 海带 (hǎi dài). Saccharina japonica  ; in Japanese 真昆布 or kombu.

 

Given it is with seafood, I'm going with the latter, but can't be at all sure.

 

Here is a close-up of the poster.

If you mean the red and white above and beside the black, then the red would appear to be a different type of seaweed (probably laver - 紫菜 (zǐ cài), Pyropia yezoensis; Japanese 海苔 (nori)) and the white I'm fairly sure is squid.

Hmm, looks a bit like daikon but hard to tell.  I would kill for a squid burger.

Many years ago, I was in the hospital and was allowed nothing by mouth for like 8 or 9 days - back in those days, the nutrition came from a large bag of whitish fluid pumped into me by IV.  I was never really hungry the whole time, but I remember watching Burger King tv commercials thinking that the first thing I was going to do once I got out was get one of those burgers.  I actually did go to the BK when I got out, but looking at what actually was presented was a thoroughly disappointing experience...

No worries. I'm a bit slow today, too.

I've been trying to find a pair of images I am sure I posted before of a German style sausage thing in a bun thing that McD's did here. The ad and the reality, but haven't found them yet.

When I was in the Navy I was stationed in Sasebo, Japan.  The McDonald's there had a teriyaki burger.  It was the standard sausage patty on a burger bun with cheese, lettuce, mayo, and teriyaki sauce.

 

It was actually pretty good!

It is a tasty burger. My favourite sweet soy flavoured burger is this one, though ...

KFC just sent every cell phone in the city this ad for their latest breakfast choice. They are turning into a noodle shack.

 

葱油拌面 (cōng yóu bàn miàn), literally 'scallion oil mix noodles' although together the last two characters refer to noodles with soy sauce. ¥14 ($1.95 USD) is a steep price  for this dish. The same (better?) dish can be had yards away for half that.

I'm sure they're not the first to come up with it, but I noticed yesterday that one of the Indian places in town ("Naan-ya business!") was touting butter chicken poutine on its sign board outside at the busy intersection.

 

Indo-Canadians are among our largest minority populations here, so in its idiosyncratic way it's an instant classic of sorts.
