Not necessarily a Trader Joe's product, but purchased an hour ago at Trader Joe's...

Trying to avoid any rocks or other contaminants in my food, I stick to mostly produce.  Today, avocado prices were way up...I think two weeks ago, I paid $1.49 a piece; today they are $2.49 (appears to be a shortage of Mexican avos).

a little twist on an item I enjoy from time to time

IMG_2817.thumb.jpg.d605d03f135454c9ad8b551e3a14e1e7.jpg

TJ's Fz  Chicken bits w an orange sauce ,  you dump that sauce , make your own

but as you can see , I staged this pic, because  the results were so good :

this is a dry version , CSO  425 F  25 minutes or so .

added TJ's ranch seasoning  the the TJ's Green dried chilis

it was delicious .   if you like , you can dip this into something

is good I just ate it as is.

next time Ill season right out of the oven .  the green chili gets aromatic.

TJ’s four cheese ravioli, served two very generously, they cooked rapidly and were nice and plump.

Topped with pork ragu, pecorino and basil, they are a repeat buy for me.

Trader Joes has an interesting approach to bananas :

https://fox59.com/news/national-world/the-somewhat-silly-reason-trader-joes-sells-its-bananas-for-19-cents-apiece/

I was @ Stop & Shop early this AM for another item

and picked up a few bananas as I was out.

4 medium-is.  @ $ 0.69 // lb  =  $ 0.92  total cost.

@ TJ's,   $ 0.19 // banana , any size.  =  $ 0.76

think about the savings , by % , of TJ's  larger specimens .

who knew ?  not me .

Not exactly a new idea; the ubiquitous fruit and vegetable vendors who set up on the streets have been pricing bananas like that since before Joe traded.  Usually 4 for $1, or $.35 each.

Another bag of Hatch chilies, and a bag of those little assorted peppers...

I even used the közmatiq correctly this time!  The more roasty the chilies are, the easier the skin will slip off.  And there was practically zero mess under the grates on the stove.

I'd have needed an explanation anyway! Thanks for the link. 🙂

So how are the Hatch chiles? We picked up a couple of bag today, but the bags say "mild." In my time in NM there was no such thing as a mild Hatch chile.

These are mediums (probably Big Jims), and they are definitely spicier than the mild ones.  Quite a few cultivars of this pepper are grown in the Hatch Valley...

Okay then, I'm braced for disappointment. Getting a reasonably hot fresh green chile around here has become a pipe dream. The only thing I can find with a kick is a serrano, and roasting and peeling those would be insane.

Yes. You're probably better off punching up the dishes with some real New Mexican chili powder (single variety).

I miss New Mexico desperately. Most all my vacations are now spent in or around Atlanta, where you could roast a green chile, if you could find one, on the sidewalk. Next month I'm headed for Highlands NC, toggling back and forth to Decatur GA. Looking forward to good fresh harvest apples and fried green tomato BLTs. On the back end, in mid October, we will spend a few days with my nephew and his family in the middle of nowhere MA. It will be very pretty. He has two pandemic kids I've never met. Maybe there's an apple cider doughnut in my near future.

An amusing episode. My father has had the TJ Cinnamon Raisin Bread with his eggs for breakfast for several years. For days I heard the same  complaining comments from dad and wife at their breakfast table. She claimed they did not have his regular bread so she bought a different TJ one. "Outrageous, this is smaller than the old one, don't like the taste, costs a dollar more..." Yesterday I'd had it and went online. I realized what the dullest knife in the drawer had purchased was a gluten free bread. I called their regular TJ, guy went to check, held one loaf at counter and said they had plentry more. I tried to explain it to her and only got push-back and she did not bother to go pick it up. Oh well I tried and the staff was great, as always.
