A friend just gave me 20 fundraiser cookbooks some of which I will share with Judiu which means they can still be part of the total. These are from organizations as diverse as a hospice, a Montessori school and a group of Cairn Terrier lovers. Churches, museums and women's groups are also included. A huge amount of work goes into preparing these. The largest has 582 pages. The Settlement Cookbook started as guide for young Jewish women and has been in print for over 100 years.

Wow. I will no longer feel guilty about my meager 14 cookbooks. Some of my favorites are:

Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone by D. Madison.

Books for Cooks 6 . I really want to get the rest of this series, but I guess I have to go to London to do so - Oh, I love this shop!

Recipes by Linda McWaters (my mother). She wrote out some of my favorites of her recipes for me when I went off to college. She used a black and white Composition book - just like her first recipe book from when she took her first cooking class [which was Chinese Cooking, taught in Kingston, Jamaica]. The first recipe in her cookbook is for Rice. The first recipe in the book she gave me is for Roasted Chicken.

My most recent purchase is the Cast Iron Skillet Cookbook.

The Vietnamese Cuisine was a nice surprise from my husband: the book is available only from Sofitel in Hanoi but incidentally his friend is a visiting professor in a local university there.

The remaning three were ordered from amazon canada - either not available in US or much more expensive here.

So, Maggie, question.

I have one set of the Time Life Foods of the World series. Garage sale, somewhat dog eared, but who cares.

MIL calls and says she doen't want her's anymore. She needs more bookshelf space "for more valuable books." So, I say, yes, I've love them (they are pristine, I'd be surprised if any of the books were ever owned). Will they count even if they are duplicates of what I already have? If so, add them.

I went to the used bookstore sale and bought Michel Guérard's Cuisine minceur. Afterwards, I went to Border's and bought a copy of Jacques Pépin's Complete techniques.

Are you still counting? I can add 1000 and probably 100 more at the cottage. Wont be able to get there for another 3 months or so. This cookbook thing of mine may be getting out of control!

Probably around 100 cookbooks here - especially a fan of Charlie Trotter's coffee table books. I've actually made some of his recipes from them, and it can be quite a satisfying thing to do if you've got three or four days with nothing else scheduled. My most recent purchase - arguably a cookbook, arguably not, is Radical Brewing by Randy Mosher. I can’t imagine a more authoritative source on Swankey.

Full disclosure: I worked briefly with Mr. Mosher in the 80’s, but no connection now, and haven’t even seen him in 5 – 6 years, even though he lives only about two miles away (unless he’s moved in the last few years.).

Ya know, I used to think I had a lot of cookbooks. Compared to most of my friends, I do. But I'm almost ashamed to add my paltry 66 books to this list... :unsure:

I'm gonna go bake something…
