Add about 935 for me. My last acquisitions were American Boulangerie by Pascal Rigo(the best canneles), The Whole Beast by Fergus Henderson. Among my oldest are MFK Fisher's How to Cook a Wolf.

I have a winery so people are always giving me regional cookbooks (such as Mrs. Wilkes Boardinghouse Cookbook from Savannah, GA)

I was at the same store hillvalley was at today and picked up The Joy of Pickling and Rosengarten's Taste.

Awesome score...TJOP is fabulous, as you and I just discussed here and I'm pretty sure that the Rosengarten book has been out of print for quite a while.

Very nice

Another 14 for me:

1st order:

*--Lucy’s “Lobscouse and Spotted Dog (haven’t started reading it yet)

--a Suzanne Somers book for $5 (cause I was too cheap to spend $35 for a used copy to check out the similar Montignac diet)

--Cindy Mushet’s dessert cookbook

*--Just discovered, a cookie cookbook from The Good Cook that got shoved in the closet a couple of months ago when the carpet was cleaned

2nd order:

--Dom DeLuise’ “Eat This It’s Good For You” (full of pastas and lots of other things in heavy tomato sauces, which I never make)

--“Nathalie Dupree Cooks Great Meals for Busy Days” from a TV series

--Rosengarten’s “It’s All American Food” for $5!

--Malgheri’s “How to Bake”

--One of the Southern Living compilations

*--a rhubarb pamphlet, too late for this year’s crop

Just ordered:

*--4 diet books, mostly Schwarzbein Principle—I’m checking out all the diets to find the one that sounds most reasonable AND which I can most likely stick to.

*marked books were bought new. I usually buy everything “used, like new” unless it’s priced at only a couple dollars higher new. Love those deep discounts, but sometimes it pays to order new books for the Amazon free shipping.

I've just this minute joined egullet and happened upon this thread. I'm at about 30, including The Brantley Cookbook (from Brantley, AL), in which a good 50% of the recipes call for Veg-All. Does Jim Harrison's essay "Going Places" count, a piece of writing that's really about driving but feels like it's about eating. A stew of maps, etc.

I surprised myself with 73! Although some are compilations of magazines (cooks illustrated hard covers)

75 - And seeing some of the numbers here I no longer feel guilty about having too many.

No, it's comforting to know that I'm relatively small-time on this thread. I means I have Licence to Buy!

Sadly maggie, minus one.

The eBay auction I won the Caprial Pence Bistro book for $6 (June 27) the seller has decided to go the fraud route, cash my money order (July 8) and has informed me they have no intention of mailing the book as agreed.

Have to confess - 29 acquired yesterday including 25 of the Time-Life Foods of the World collection (sadly without the small recipe books) but a deal at $15 for the lot. I have no place to keep them! But I look at it like this: The cheapest magazine is around $7.00 Cdn (with taxes) so I have 25 magazines each costing less than a $1.00! I will read, enjoy and then discard.

I hope you report them to the eBay fraud department. I believe eBay has some kind of guarantee if that happens to you. I might be wrong, though.

Add 5 more, including Baking with Julia, and New Way to Cook.

That's cool--I did the buy one get one free thing on thegoodcook.com and those were two books I got!

Edit: Whoops, I didn't get the New Way to Cook. That's at my library and I was going to check it out. I got the I Love to Cook Book. Hope it's good.

I had a great week and have 21 new(used)books including books to read and books to cook from. The former category includes a 1945 first edition of The Egg and I and the latter 2 soup books, Terence Janericco's Fabulous Fruit Desserts, 2 Donna Hay titles, the Cook's Illustrated Restaurant Recipes and a Mark Bittman. How to Taste by Jancis Robinson is alone in a category in which I am very weak. I also got a bread book, a cookie book and a pristine copy of Glorious French Food by James Peterson. I should stop until we move, but apparently I can't.

I have not counted recently. I know it's more than 50, but it's less than 100. The, of course, there are all the recipes I have collected on my PC...

Now I feel compelled to count...

Ok, since my last post on this thread, I have added 9 more cookbooks. But if I understand correctly we can count food essay and other related books? If so that is another twelve. SO IN TOTAL ADD ANOTHER 21 FOR ME

I love the Good Cook for ideas. I then immediately check the library. Then, if I like it, I check all the usual used book suspects for the best price. The less I spend, the more I can get, right?

By the way, for those in and around Chicago, there is an antique/used book shop on Madison Ave. in Forest Park with a whole wall of cookbooks. There is a mix of old and new. I was amazed at how many they had. I think it is called Little Treasures. It's just east of Des Plaines Ave. I'll check the name again next time I am nearby. And La Piazza is just a few blocks down, one of Chicago Magazines Top Ten new restaurants or some such list.

If you feel comfortable doing this, it would be of great service if you could post the seller's eBay name.

I have recently added 10 (or so), including (titles from memory):

Simple Cuisine (?) - Jean-Georges V

Italian Cookery (?) - M Hazan

Uncommon Grounds - Mark Pendergrast

Chez Panisse Vegetables - Alice Waters

Ethiopian Cooking - unknown author (cool book with dual english-ethiopian language sections for both American and Ethiopian "home" cooking)

...and a few more that I can't remember.

I just posted this suggestion on the 'her first cookbook' thread, as I've recently acquired Lyn Hall's Cookery Course. It is elegant, simple, accessible, clear, beautiful photographs, really just a lovely book, friendly and professional, utterly unpretentious, full of both astute precision and the message to enjoy. Forward by fellow Brit Nigel Slater.

And Pierre Franey's Cooking In France is such a fine, fine sweep through the various regions in France.................
