  1. Past hour
  2. OMG!!! I didn't realize that they made a new 500 model. Thanks to everyone here, I have three of the 300N1 ovens. I bought the second one as a back up as recommended here. But after two years in the box, I opened the second one to use just for bread. Had a stone cut so that i could bake up to 13" to 14" baguettes and I basically just use the first one as a toaster. Then I found one for sale on the local facebook market place for $50 and bought one for work.
  3. Yes. I hope it fits.
  4. Today
  5. When ground cover becomes Shisho Leafs!!
  6. I will say that it recently seems more widely available. I have purchased pork belly from Costco and our local international foods store for years, but just recently I have noted it being sold at Food Lion, a very mid-road grocer, not noted for carrying anything unusual.
  7. Saturday was a pretty mellow day. We just spent the day swimming at Francis beach, and then went back to the villa to grill burgers and veggie burgers that I brought from home. I remembered to take a picture of the beach this time. Sunday was another fairly lazy day. My husband lost his snorkel mask on our boat day (the strap snapped when he jumped off the boat. The water was 60’ deep so there was no swimming after it) and we have not gone in to town to replace it yet, so we have just been swimming. Sundays in the summer are the worst day to get parking at the beach because that’s the day many locals have off from work, and the water is actually warm enough that they will swim in it. We ended up driving all the way to the east end to a rocky but calm beach called Haulover. Even here, at the farthest point of the island, there were about 15 other people on the beach. This is one of those spots you would typically have to yourself. After swimming my nephew lobbied very hard for an early dinner at Johnny Lime, which is barbecue. The setting The menu Drinks. Husband’s lita mezcalita, a special passionfruit gin fizz that my sister chose, and my nephew’s danger. Niece and I just had water. Husband got brisket with mac and cheese and a salad with local greens I had a blackened catfish sandwich with slaw and yucca fries. I am not sure when they switched from mahi to catfish on the menu, or why, but it ended up being very tasty. nephew had brisket with rice and beans and yuca fries Niece had a pulled pork sandwich that I did not get a picture of, and sister was sulky because she didn’t want anything on the menu. She didn’t end up ordering anything but a side of the chickpea fritters. After linner we went to Trunk Bay for a late swim And then back to the villa to shower. I had a visitor in my outdoor shower though, so my husband and I ended up going for a pool swim instead and called it getting cleaned up 😂
  8. I’m waiting for them to make an oven that will do everything above, plus clean up after cooking.
  9. further info from the above : note: its been around for almost a year ! BTW: does anyone see the internal dimensions ? oven capacity is listed as 20 L .
  10. @ElsieD Congratulations ! pics please ? and we all will enjoy your take on putting it through its paces. odd on available in USA . also , very different price points.

    Dinner 2025

Thanks - it’s actually a rather calm affair (and a lot less coordinated or graceful than a ballet 🤭). The cold dished were prepared over the course of the weekend, whenever I felt like it. The hot stuff plus the plating happened in half an hour, so when DW left & returned from picking up little one from his playdate everything was ready …
  12. My GF's now-deceased former mother-in-law belonged to an obscure, cult-ish religious sect. During a visit to her house after her conversion, she explained that my now-GF and her then-husband that while her sect discouraged drinking, they understood that this could be an issue for those who had until recently been denizens of "the secular world." So she was allowed one glass of wine per day. Context: She had already filled the glass. It was one of the novelty kind that holds an entire 750ml bottle. ...and she was completely, deadpan, unironically serious.
  13. That would be simply Marillenkuchen. A Marillenknödel is a quark-dough based dumpling with a small apricot inside.
  14. I tried the Delice de Bourgogne cheese today. Delicious, and a deal at $14 lb. One thing, though, it's pretty salty, so beware if you are not a person who likes salt. Still, creamy x 3 and rather addictive.
  15. Water runs out on the floor. It did.
  16. What's a small glass of wine. Never heard of such a thing!
  17. I don’t usually snack in the evening, but I’m currently nibbling on some aged Gouda (Trader Joe’s 1000 day) and sipping a small glass of wine. This came about due to my new Apple watch which buzzed and told me to stand up and move around for a little while. I didn’t have any little tasks I wanted to embark on at this hour but it occurred to me that I could go get myself a little snack. Probably not the intended result of this “fitness reminder” 🙃 When I finish nibbling, I’ll look up how to turn this function off!
  18. Ice has a larger volume than water, so pretty good chance of cracking the reservoir, or at least coming back to a big puddle later
  19. Ok, what happens when one overfills the reservoir of an ice maker? Yeasted pancake batter on a hot afternoon? Oof, hope it didn’t go anywhere too difficult to clean up!
  20. Yakety Yak Don’t look back Another protein I’ve never seen in markets or supermarkets is Bos grunniens. I have however eaten it often, both in restaurants and at home. In fact there is a restaurant which specialises in it only 500 metres / ⅓ of a mile from my door It is easily available online. Image: pconline, com,cn I’m talking about yak. I find most people associate yak with Tibet but their native habitat is much wider even extending to the Mongolias in the far north. In Tibetan, the source of the English name, it is འབྲི་གཡག (gyag); in Mongolian, сарлаг (sarlag) in Cyrillic but ᠸᠠᠨ ᠦᠬᠡᠷ᠃ traditional script; and in Chinese, 牦牛 (máo niú). It is an essential part of life in the Himalayas supplying its labour, supplying fur for clothing etc, and supplying milk and meat. Their dung is dried and used as fuel on the treeless mountains. Yak meat The staple drink in Tibet is butter tea བོད་ཇ། (bod ja), made by mixing tea, yak butter, water, and salt. Pu-erh black tea is considered best. Of course, first they have to make the butter, གཡག་མར། (gyagmar). Yak milk is higher in butterfat than that from regular cattle, resulting in a richer butter. I often buy yak butter which has a soft cheesy texture Yak Butter The meat can be used in any way one can use beef. I’ve had it in hotpots, grilled, stir fried and braised. Braised Yak Yak Jerky Yak Sausages
  21. I shall never again over fill the reservoir of an ice maker. And while I'm at it I shall never again neglect yeast raised pancake batter on a hot summer afternoon.
  22. Also, camelcamelcamel shows this price history for the CSO-500C on Amazon.ca. While currently unavailable, it looks like it was in stock as recently as the end of June.
  23. I've never not seen them in mainstream stores. I think you meant to say this to @IndyRob; not me.
  24. This might be why you're seeing them in mainstream stores now.
  25. The Amazon.ca listing for the CSO-500C: https://www.amazon.ca/Cuisinart-Gourmet-Stainless-Countertop-CSO-500C/dp/B0DD11K3DS has more detailed photos than I saw on the Costco or Cuisinart pages, though it’s currently unavailable from them.
