A lot of people are still laboring under the  mistaken idea that brown eggs are more nutritious. I know that that is the prevailing thought in Costa Rica. White eggs are practically non-existent here and when you do find them they cost about a quarter more than brown eggs. This is what the USDA has to say about it.

I remember an advertising jingle that was local in nature (local being New England I think) from my childhood that went:

🎵  Brown eggs are local eggs, and local eggs are fresh! 🎵

 

so  if you're a certain age to remember that little song, maybe the subliminal message makes you reach for the brown eggs!

I mainly use duck eggs and must confess I prefer to buy those with the green-tinged shells, even though I know there is no real advantage to doing so. They are the same price as the white ones.

 

Now emu eggs are a different story! They are beautiful.

If true, these would not be fresh eggs.  Fresh would have transpired their water through their shells, leaving only dry residue inside.  And fresh would have spoiled long before that.

 

Perhaps the story is about eggs that were alkalized and sealed in clay or ash, the so-called Century Eggs.  That might be possible.
