My friend Lenora that has been staying with me, wanted lasagna last night so that's what we had.

Spaghetti sauce, Italian sausage, cottage cheese, two kinds of mozzarella, parmesan and asiago. Did I ever mention that I like cheese.

Served with homemade dinner rolls.

And a salad with broccoli, apple, celery, and walnuts.

It was a nice warm day when I decided to fire up the smoker and do some ribs but then it turned rainy and cold and stayed that way for the next few days.  The forecast for today was only moderately cold and minimal rain so I went ahead with the plans. I thought I'd do pasta with mushrooms and nuts instead of potatoes but whimped out and did potatoes too.  The cole slaw was the KFC copycat one that Charlie likes. The pasta sauce was made with creme fraiche

@Norm Matthews The pasta looks great in a rainy like we're having right now. Those are pecans, right? Never used them in pasta, I absolutely should try.

Everyone's meals look really good.  I am getting an error code when I try to like them for some reason.

Last night we had the old standby chicken shawarma.

Kubaneh. A Yamani-Jewish bread. It's a sort of pull-apart bread, lightly sweetened and flavored with fenugreek and nigella. Plenty of butter used for rolling and then it's baked all night long to develop a caramelized butterscoth-like flavor.

Served savory, with haminados eggs (also baked all night), home made zchug, grated tomatoes with mint, Tzfat cheese.

And also sweet with honey, and yogurt or cheese.

Takeout barbecue while watching Arkansas confound the NCAA CBS announcers. (Dumbasses, if we weren’t good we wouldn’t be there. Guess we have to beat Duke Saturday to convince you.)

I made a road trip earlier this week to a little town up the road which sports a new BBQ food truck. He offers ribs, pulled pork and chicken daily, and some other item that changes every day or so. He had advertised smoked pork loin, which tickled my taste buds. I asked for a pound of tenderloin; he looked puzzled and allowed as he didn’t have a scale, and how many slices did I want. I thought for a minute and said 8.

I was a bit taken aback when he charged me $48, but then he handed me a takeout tray that must have weighed four pounds. Got it home and it was two-inch-thick slabs of pork loin, not tenderloin. Nevertheless, it was delicious, which is good, because we’ve eaten two meals from it and have at least one left. Stopped by another bbq place on the way home and picked up beans and slaw.

I MIGHT cook tonight. I have ground beef thawed in the fridge, with an eye toward making picadillo empanadas. We shall see.

Last Sunday made a small batch broth using a few roasted chicken legs, lots of celery, ginger, garlic, cardamon, kombu, and a few salads for the week.

Most meals were tests for a family visit menu. Last night was a mini meatloaf from the freezer better than expected. And an odd request for a potato salad instead of smashed or mashed. Good crowd pleaser so that goes on the menu plan.

Italian Saba drizzle on the loaf. (the last FairwayMarket label in my pantry)

Nice lunches today

And properly medium.  Over red cabbage. Roasted Brussels sprouts. Spaetzle in lieu of quark dumplings.

Tried a wine that was new to me...

One base par-baked and frozen. Then a few days later baked all the way through. We had it with lao gan ma which is killer on pizza.
