This is BC only, but a bunch of Juwei brand food products have been recalled for potential listeria. I doubt many of us have a pack of "spicy duck esophagus" in our pantries, bit if so...

So this one is broadening. They've added Kingwuu brand and T&T brand products to the recall, and of course T&T is Loblaw's so that puts the product into a lot more stores. It now affects BC and Alberta for sure, and the products may have made their way to other provinces.

The "Western Family" brand of chocolate-covered and yogurt-covered pretzels is being recalled for potential salmonella. Affects BC for sure, possibly/probably other provinces will be added to the recall.

Check your cupboards, snack lovers: Frito-Lay is recalling Harvest Cheddar flavored Sun Chips, and one of its Munchies mixes, for salmonella. This one is national.

This in the NYTimes, yesterday :

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/10/well/live/fda-microdose-chocolate.html

'''  t’s not clear why the bars might have sickened consumers. Diamond Shruumz has marketed the chocolates as “trippy little squares” and calls the chocolate a “microdose,” referring to a term for a small amount of a psychedelic. But the company has said the bars do not contain psychedelic substances, including psilocybin, the hallucinogenic drug found in so-called magic mushrooms. Instead, Diamond Shruumz says its products have “nootropic and functional mushrooms,” like Lion’s Mane, Reishi and Chaga mushrooms. ,,,

''''   “Our initial belief is that it’s something else that truly isn’t psilocybin but close enough to give that effect, which is why it’s being marketed as a microdosing edible,” said Dr. Steven Dudley, director of the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center.   ''

''''  Mushroom chocolates have grown more popular in recent years, as companies capitalize on a wealth of research around — and consumer interest in — psilocybin ''''

,,,,  There is little regulatory oversight of these chocolates, which sometimes contain psilocybin or other compounds that can induce a psychedelic effect. And most of the products are not independently tested to confirm what they contain — which makes it all but impossible for consumers to know what they’re getting in a mushroom chocolate bar.  '''

,,,,   “It really worries me from a public health standpoint: Trying to commercialize these with no regulation whatsoever means you might have all kinds of things being placed into these kinds of products,” ,,,

,,,,  Some bars branded as “mushroom” chocolates may contain psilacetin, sometimes called 4-AcO-DMT, a compound that produces similar effects to psilocybin ,,,

etc.

One from the UK re sandwiches

Quote

All the cases recorded in the outbreak involve Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O145 (Stec), with 81 cases in England, 18 in Wales, 13 in Scotland and one person in Northern Ireland, who believes they acquired Stec in England.

This is where some people find out that the sandwiches sold in different çompeting' major chains all come from the same factory.

Full story and sandwiches concerned here.

Okay, this one's a Really Big Deal for those of us who have friends who are vegan or lactose-intolerant. A whole bunch of the Silk brand alt-milks and related beverages, and the Great Value versions sold by Walmart as a private-label offering, are being recalled for listeria.

I doubt anyone here will be impacted, but the WeCook brand of swiss cheese meatballs in mustard sauce is being recalled for listeria. They're known to have been sold in Ontario and Quebec as well as online.

Send this link to your kids/grandkids and anyone else who has an infant: "Baby Gourmet" brand organic banana raisin oatmeal is being recalled for cronobacter contamination.

Here's one that may affect a lot of our USA members. Weirs Farm, Inc. which sells produce to Walmart, Aldi, Shop n Save, and other grocery chains has recalled its cucumbers, poblanos, jalapenos, green beans, and a host of other products due to possible contamination from Listeria. No illnesses have been reported. A number of states' stores are included in the distribution list. (I'm happy to report, for selfish reasons, that Minnesota and Wisconsin aren't listed.)

There's been an update on the baby food recall, though it seems relatively minor.
