Okay, and sorry, but this sounds absolutely disgusting.

Do you ever get over to the restaurant at the airport, Hangar B?  Or have you posted about it before (I guess it's mostly breakfast)?

I agree. Much worse than a dirty martini and looks nothing like a negroni.

Was negroni at least in quotes?

Oyster shell infused gin and vermouth is a thing, and it’s actually very nice.

Definitely on a menu (or as, as I don't see it on their menu now)...https://punchdrink.com/recipes/shuck-n-jive/

To me, a waste of perfectly good sherry and vermouth, and as far as the vodka goes, who cares?

You know, it gets to the point where some of this shit is just silly.

I have been there, but not for years. It’s pretty rare that we go out for breakfast. We all typically eat just toast, fruit, and/or yogurt in the morning.

It was on the daily specials drink menu, which I did not look at, so not sure, sorry.

Not disagreeing, but you could say that about a lot of weird alcohol mixers, right? Do we really need all those flavored rums floating out there in the world? Cucumber or chili pepper infused vodka? Or more traditionally, even a worm in a bottle of mezcal? Probably not, but maybe a marketing tool.  I know there is still a bottle of rum in my liquor cabinet that my husband and I bought on our honeymoon. We did not buy it for the excellent flavor, we bought it because it was in a bottle shaped like a policeman and we thought it was cool looking at the time.  It’s never actually been opened.

OMG that's the biggest fridge in the universe!  What brand is that?  Could we maybe see the inside?  I'd LOVE to have one like that.  I'd have to build a bigger kitchen though.......

It’s a Thermidor. Here’s the inside. Nothing in the freezer but ice cream and ice cubes. I brought the ice cube trays from home in case the house did not have any. I did not realize that there was this huge ice maker!

IMG_8013.thumb.jpeg.ca59fdccf199e8646b3bc82f5f1a05ca.jpeg

And the fridge.  Nothing in there either except some yogurt, fruit, my nephew’s loaf of bread, and stuff to make coffee.  There’s also beer and wine for my husband and nephew (most of which will get hauled back home), and spindrift seltzer and Diet Coke for me (just the right amount for the time we have left here, because I am a planner like that).

IMG_8012.thumb.jpeg.c8ca9c7bb1c652c1ac87a85b253166da.jpeg

So after saying we never go out to breakfast, we went out to breakfast in town yesterday, at the Captain’s Table. Nephew had pancakes

IMG_8001.thumb.jpeg.4639261a4c84b41ae2a9a54801fda53f.jpeg

And husband and I both got a bowl with scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado, tomatoes, cheddar and home fries

IMG_8002.thumb.jpeg.4772092d009a2964f667558335f2349c.jpeg

The day was pretty foggy and windy, so no scenic pictures. Nephew wanted sushi for dinner, so we went to Bluefins in town.  Nephew had a whiskey sour (I think?), and husband had a sake martini

IMG_8003.thumb.jpeg.df7fa683024cba77186567f06c9b28b5.jpeg

We were restricted as to what we could order by my nephew’s shellfish allergy, but they did a great job being careful about the order and customizing stuff as needed. It took a little longer, but he was really happy with everything he got to try. Left to right, there’s a spicy scallop roll, a bluefin roll, a mixed salmon, yellowtail and tuna roll, some crazy thing with spicy tuna and tobiko (he thought this was too sweet), and a toro roll.

IMG_8007.thumb.jpeg.d83e1676ddd17448ab166ee8144ae308.jpeg

He also wanted to order the Oreo sushi roll for dessert

IMG_8011.thumb.jpeg.37a722ac350a45e356844a75333f9f63.jpeg

This basically tasted like a mint Girl Scout cookie.  One slice was enough though!

One thing I have discovered about staying in this house is that the lighthouse next door plays trumpet music each day at 8am and 8pm through a loudspeaker. It always starts with the calvary charge, which was a bit jarring this morning!

Dream fridge for sure - especially around the holidays. My husband call our fridge door shelves "condiment hell." He can never find things but I can - and I consider the fridge my territory.

That's a really excellent beer from Maine!

It’s readily available where we live. It’s even in the grocery store! Our house is only a 15 minute drive from the Trillium brewery (#3 in the country), so we always have lots of good options to choose from. Too bad I cannot drink it any more 😑

One drawback is that it is very tall. I do think things would get lost in there for me because of that. I have two full sized fridges at my house and that setup works better for me.

Last night we visited Pisces. Here is the menu

IMG_8018.thumb.jpeg.c9695247ba7670dafb7dc6e662a0dc05.jpeg

Drinks. Spicy margarita for my nephew, a n/a gin and tonic for me, and a weird flavored martini that my husband disliked (this has been a theme for this trip)

IMG_8020.thumb.jpeg.e6b75fba2570dd174cebbd220917579e.jpeg

We shared a starter special of flash sautéed calamari with olives, tomatoes, and arugula

IMG_8022.thumb.jpeg.420b40bd3411fc4866ab7a4b10a6b1c7.jpeg

Husband and nephew both had a special of spaghetti with poached oysters in a bacon Parmesan cream sauce with spinach

IMG_8025.thumb.jpeg.896c4638128c9c789323d8f6dfdba6f3.jpeg

I had the cornmeal crusted cod dish.

IMG_8028.thumb.jpeg.31796955e74c0eabd13fd556b162f14e.jpeg

Nephew had a dessert of espresso affogato

IMG_8030.thumb.jpeg.07c88eebe2374505bc066ca41e388bc5.jpeg

and we all shared a slice of lemon cake with blueberry sauce

IMG_8033.thumb.jpeg.55cf5fa886e1ab34b921afef6fe05053.jpeg

And that’s it for this visit. A few pictures from our beach walk this morning on aptly named Cockle Cove. The sand is covered with the cockles that give the beach its name

How did you like the N/A gin? - I have been looking into the N/A spirits but haven't bought any yet. And thank you once again for showing me a place that I will never likely visit as much as I would love to,

It’s a decent substitute, and has some of the flavors of regular gin. It has a different mouthfeel, as do basically all non alcoholic spirits.  This is the thing I notice most about non alcoholic mocktails.

At home, my mocktail of choice is light tonic water mixed with preserved lemon pulp and a pinch of salt and sugar over ice with olives. I do have a small collection of n/a spirits, but have not really experimented with them to date.

We are not going to the Cape for the 4th this year in the first time in forever.  I miss it already.  I bet the business will be really slammed this weekend.  The weather is great after so many rainy weekends.  I was talking to the guy who cleans my house on Wednesday and he said that Provincetown is completely sold out for lodging--the only thing he could get was a bare site for camping!  Luckily he enjoys camping. That would be my husband's nightmare.

They've kind of been slammed since the minute they opened.  Lots of social media presence, and I guess because this is 11th or 12th year of their shop, they know a lot of people in that town.  I keep saying that our niece will probably be the mayor one day.

The Top Restaurants in Provincetown Right Now

Ladyslipper

The building next to Canteen has been a lot of things over the years—from quirky markets to an ice cream shop—but this current incarnation feels like it’s always been there, thanks largely to the warm environment crafted by owners Rebecca Orchant and Sean Gardner (the couple who also owns Pop + Dutch, see below) and Ben Weihbrecht. Orchant also crafted the snack menu, where potato chips cooked in beef tallow take a dip in house-made onion dip and cheese slaw crowns buttery Ritz crackers. Meanwhile, on the sweeter side, local James Beard Award-winning chef Kelly Fields (of the now-closed pop-up Butch’s) offers rotating desserts like corn panna cotta and chocolate cheesecake. Slip on in and stay a while.

The mishpucha get two mentions, which is nice.

We are back on the Cape for a few days, this time in Chatham. My husband booked a long weekend at Chatham Bars Inn because he has been wanting to stay here again for years and I have been dragging my feet. I used to have to come here every year for a multi day conference when I was working, and it was not fun. Being here as a tourist is a completely different experience, and much more enjoyable.

Our room is in the spa building rather than the main inn. This part of the resort that is child free, so it is very quiet. The rooms are nice.  The massive bathroom has a steam shower, a sauna, and a whirlpool tub that fills from the ceiling.  There is a pool area just for the spa suites guests outside our room, but we probably won’t get there.  Why sit by a pool when you can walk by the ocean?

IMG_8435.thumb.jpeg.ac7034a0f68e636989247087daa353d0.jpeg

The resort is at peak capacity. My work events were always in early June, so I have never experienced crowds like there are here now. It’s crazy. We are afraid to move our car because we might never get another parking spot 😂. There are multiple weddings here this weekend, and the amount of flowers I have seen trucked in here for them defies belief.

Last night we walked into town for dinner at Viera on Main. Drinks. Husband’s dirty martini and my phony negroni

IMG_8441.thumb.jpeg.bc4c7280980553e94150bcdd1f1003f8.jpeg

We shared some garlic clams

IMG_8444.thumb.jpeg.fcb48792f7c89f1255553ff7d9294004.jpeg

and then husband had striped bass

IMG_8447.thumb.jpeg.b9729dd1e9508e3073925d576f943588.jpeg

and I had a seafood pasta with clams, mussels, cod, and shrimp

IMG_8446.thumb.jpeg.86241d65469c4b3df0e6cf77455685ab.jpeg

We skipped dessert at the restaurant in favor of hunting down some ice cream

IMG_8451.thumb.jpeg.db7239388b45a70803e4865f8e4f9768.jpeg

We chose coconut caramel swirl (way too rich, went uneaten) and heath bar peanut butter

IMG_8453.thumb.jpeg.7c5e445c99c6873e8602a2ff974b0797.jpeg

Friday nights are band concerts on the town green, so we stopped by for a bit. It’s a popular event!

IMG_2146.thumb.jpeg.4918c1fc36821e5457412ca113f80b3d.jpeg

This morning we had breakfast on the veranda of the main inn.  Scrambled eggs with avocado and asparagus on a smashed croissant

IMG_8463.thumb.jpeg.3b74c53f8c79b02aae4d0b83ecad476d.jpeg

and poached eggs with stracciatella cheese, speck, tomato, and greens

IMG_8465.thumb.jpeg.487414cb4358d66de275d8949e2b0def.jpeg

After breakfast we took the resort boat shuttle over to North Beach Island, directly offshore from CBI. It was fairly uncrowded.  Heading away from the CBI beach

IMG_8473.thumb.jpeg.8651a8feceee68b65c5b028b88a531ea.jpeg

Lots of lobster and fishing boats doing their thing

IMG_8426.thumb.jpeg.0343bbf998945003f19528fdc4f4363d.jpeg

IMG_8484.thumb.jpeg.7cfb6429515389159ef76a81091ed01c.jpeg

IMG_8468.thumb.jpeg.214675926ce78e46c4913b5dae170109.jpeg

We ended up walking over six miles just while exploring the part of the island we got to. We are going back tomorrow to explore some more.

Drinks. I had a non alcoholic amarena spritz, and husband had a cocktail with mezcal and strawberries. I forget the name of it.

IMG_8489.thumb.jpeg.3e1d0fb19921c366ed7c3e3548de97ef.jpeg

Amuse bouche of duck rillettes with cherries.  I don’t like duck but husband said they were tasty.

We shared some appetizers. Oysters. They were delicious, but very small!

IMG_8492.thumb.jpeg.4e3456be64226ad259a0456586e1a631.jpeg

tuna

and the peach burrata salad. These were both delicious

I had the scallops

and husband had the waygu with a lobster tail added

Dessert menu

IMG_8500.thumb.jpeg.ac3da2dead67382c5dd79b6bf4a0b8a6.jpeg

I knew I wanted the berries and cream. It was really lovely. Husband got the coffee torte and regretted it after he tasted mine. Torte

berries

IMG_8501.thumb.jpeg.017ad980dc95918b7d5eec17af9970e1.jpeg

There was a complimentary parting dessert as well, but we had our server box it up for us to take to the room for tomorrow since we were both too full to eat anything else!

Yes that was the potato. He said that the inside was extremely creamy. He was worried it might be overcooked when he saw it, but it was actually perfect. The outside was crispy and the inside was tender.

The bathroom is very nice. I will say though, that when we renovated our baths at home we put beautiful freestanding deep soaking tubs in both the primary and the guest suite bathrooms.  Neither has been used once, and it’s been three years. If I was redoing it (which I am definitely not!) I would opt for an oversized multi person shower with steam jets and a heated floor and heated towel racks in the room instead. Big bathtubs seem like a good idea and look nice, but showers are just more practical. Maybe it’s just my personal preference though.

We too have a large free standing tub that no one has bathed in since my daughters left home 5 years ago. I woud love to get rid of it and have a large steam shower with a big bench instead!

What delicious food!

If you go back to Stars would you please ask about Ode to Vegetables which is in the Farm Showcase section. If I'm reading correctly, the vegetables will come as Tempura, with various sauces. The vegetables are no doubt chosen for their freshness.

I'm really curious about what a likely selection of vegetables would be.
