Wow.You have a lemon...you

It means a lot to hear this validated.  Sigh.

Meanwhile, I think this door problem has been going on for awhile; while I didn't notice it (embarrasingly), I have notice mind-boggling gas bills, and in fact have called ConEd to review them.  I use the oven usually a couple of times a day.

I've never used the self clean feature of my ovens.

They look pretty clean to me....not sure why they don't get cruddy.

Using the self-clean feature blew up the "motherboard" in my oven. Independent tech who came to repair claims that self-clean should be outlawed. Apparently it is the main cause of most of his service calls.

Interesting point - the ovens get very hot inside when they run this cycle so unless they have really good heat shielding I can see it being an issue. As a maybe useful data point, we had a Miele oven in our last place with pyrolytic clean - used it 2-3 time a year for fifteen years without issue.  I wouldn't get one without it now as I'm so messy it's a lifesaver - I'd be very annoyed if I bought an oven that it started breaking.

poorly designed ovens that allow the heat from a self-clean, or other, to destroy their electronics . . .

question on that....?

the biggest decision should hinge on who, within my local area, will service this device?

I have a "Professional" grade Viking.  the nearest company that will service the junk wants one hour travel time to, and one hour travel time from, plus on site time to 'diagnose' and order parts, plus one hour to/from, plus repair time.

some modern junk is much more expensive, long term, than other modern junk...

Thus my choice of BlueStar. Minimal electronics and we are close to reputable repair as well as the manufacturer.
