Mrs. C did a fused glass crafternoon with friends, and they stayed for dinner. Clockwise from bottom center:

BBQ pork butt, rubbed with 'magic dust', smoked overnight in the Weber bullet, and then finished in the oven with a glaze of the BBQ sauce. Served with potato rolls, for those who prefer a traditional pulled pork sandwich with BBQ sauce and coleslaw. One guest said she would "skip the roll so she could eat more."

BBQ sauce made with ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, celery salt, 'Soul Sucker' hot sauce, and ginger.

Coleslaw made with green cabbage, onion, yellow mustard, rice vinegar, sugar, salt, and mayonnaise to taste.

Chow chow, homemade by one of the guests

Baked beans, made with canned navy, pinto, and black beans, BBQ sauce, chorizo, onion, red bell pepper, chile Poblano, hard cider, molasses, yellow mustard, cider vinegar, and burnt ends from the pork butt.

Collard greens, made with smoked ham hocks, red bell pepper, chile Poblano, cider vinegar, molasses, black pepper, hot sauce, and celery seeds.

Went to the Turkish supermarket for some aubergines, came back with a lamb shoulder instead 🙄

Lamb shoulder, marinated with rosemary, garlic, lemon and anchovy, slow cooked in the oven, with giant white beans added after some hours, served with home made zaziki and olives. Not pictured flatbread from my emergency dough …

The usual Wednesday night shuffle.   2 working parents, activities for 2 of the boys.   New CSA stuffing the fridge and 20 min to make dinner.

First dinner back in MEX after a month's absence.  Arrachera.  It's marinated skirt steak and this was most tender I've had in years.  From a meat provider outside of Guadalajara.

Exactly 3.5 minutes per side on a hot gas grill.  Perfecto!

We ate half of it with puré de papas and some zucchini.   The rest will give us a few fajitas or quesadillas.  Or steak sandwiches on a local fresh bolillo (yeast roll).

I salute you! With that time frame I'd probably go with peanut butter sandwiches. 😅

I have ordered three or four things that took a month or more to get here. I wonder what is going on?  Anyway, yesterday a long awaited bread pan that holds three hoagie size buns finally came. Today I used them to make some sub sandwiches.  The recipe makes eight buns so I froze half of it for another time.  I forgot to score them, so maybe that is why they are higher in the middle. The middle loaf was 186º when the other two were 194º but it came out OK anyway.

Dum aloo (potatoes in spicy yogurt gravy): Peel, poke, and fry whole potatoes, remove. Brown fry onions, add minced ginger and ground cumin, coriander, cayenne, turmeric, and garam masala. Return potatoes to the pan and simmer with crushed tomato and yogurt. When the potatoes are done, finish with heavy cream. Very rich and full of flavor.

We made this for a potluck, and most disappeared. Even so, we have a fridge jam-packed with leftovers. No cooking for a few days, most likely.

On my own this week and it's been uncharacteristically hot for May so Ive not cooked until tonight.

Since partner will be home Sunday, I had to get my curry fix!

First time trying the dry Rice Ramen noodles from costco and they were a nice change from rice.

I had milk and cheeses to use up so made a very small baked mac and cheese with cheddar, blue cheese and some of the pepperoni and mozzarella crisps I got at Costco. Very tasty and my doctor would probably not be happy about it. ☺️

My nephew is in Montana this week, so I have been letting my niece choose the dinners.  She has been picking stuff she loves that he dislikes.  One night it was chicken katzu with rice and cucumber salad. He tolerates this meal, but it's not a favorite (he says he could live on five dinners: pasta, pizza, tacos, curry, and burgers)

And last night she asked for pineapple fried rice with glazed bok choy.  He hates pineapple in every form, and she loves it, so it was a nice treat for her.

Pan-fried prok and chive dumplings can make a nice starter...or even dinner, for that matter.

Alaskan sockeye salmon and halibut, roasted in the steam oven, came out beautifully.  Served with basmati rice pilaf and a broccoli/carrot stir fry.
