@Shel_B, congrats on the good results. Doesn't sound like fun, though.

Thanks for your congrats.  Actually, the exam was a bit of fun as I got to see and experience the new, high-tech devices and techniques used for such exams.  And everyone I encountered - doctors, receptionist, and billing folks - were friendly, pleasant, professional, and punctual.  The waiting or reception area was light, airy, and comfortable, and had a great view of the city and the hills. And plenty of free parking right by  the entrance door. 👍

there is a discussion of P4's .   I had to get some .  2 - 3 , w a 4th just in case .

TJ's had these :

these are clearly not authentic P4's.  and we at eG love authentic .

authentic would have to have pastel frosting , and some sort of jam in the middle layer.

well , these are going to have to do , and are no doubt better.

I'd go for those! Please give us an interior shot when you cut into them! (Unless it's already too late? 😉)

here are the three varieties in the above pack.

TJ's over many years

has chocolate ganache style deliciousness for some time.

form varies seasonally/ . , but delicious always

I was very pleasantly surprised :  I expected the mostly cho9colate etc

first :  these P4's have the right amount of icing .  key    a lot.

the R was chocolate , and perfect

middle was Maple , and was this Sooooooo good .  lots pf maple and frosting

the L  was Lemon.  did not have as high hopes for this vs chocolat

but was surprised again :  lemony , and plenty of frosting.

hope there are some left on Friday !

I've not seen this before today. I grabbed one and may try it for dinner tonight. My favorite buzz words: spicy, Calabrian, smoked, sausage, grilled, peppers ... be still, my fibrillating heart.

TJSpicyPizza.jpg.8f1f661d4ad61b803b85099b2719acc3.jpg

I finally got around to trying the pizza for lunch today, and in general, I liked it.  I have to get the baking time adjusted as it came out a bit over baked, but the topping and the spiciness were pretty good.

I blended some fresh grated Reggiano and Pecorino, mixed in some fresh ground Kashmiri and Calabrian peppers along with some finely flaked Turkish Aleppo, and generously sprinkled it over the pie after removing it from the Breville.  Overall, a nice enhancement to a pretty decent topping.

I'll definitely buy another one and continue playing with the baking time/temp.

Big PASS for me on the TJ's Movie Theater Popcorn.  Flavors OK, people seem to rave about it.  But there are some tooth breakers hiding in the bags.  Super hard pieces that masquerade as popped pieces.  BEWARE.

I still love the white cheddar popcorn, it's delicious and I've never encountered a dangerous kernal.

My local store says the Bleu Cheese Potato Chips were a seasonal item only and will not be back. There was some degree of internet mixed reaction to these, but I became addicted. Gonna need some counseling.

I have a new oven , same as the old one , but new.

decided to make some Tj's cornbread , from their mix.

ddd.thumb.jpg.64de36ff79114885aa4846f0e229c0d8.jpg

Ive done this many times in the distant past ,  and like the result.

this is a CB mix that ends up on the sweet side of the CB spectrum, but not too sweet.

for me , 1 ) its right in front of me  @ TJ's    and 2 ) I can work with it .

the Rx asks for you to add  1 egg , 3/4 C milk and 1/2 C oil .   lightly mix , bake 8 " x 8 "  30 - 35 M

IMG_5567.thumb.jpeg.4f6c8dfc10e71b5ce47a9b54f6d6197b.jpeg

sorry for the blur.  I added a Tb , or so of Tj's green dried chili.

I decided to use parchment paper rather than butter etc the 8 x 8 .  I have PP.

IMG_5569.thumb.jpeg.798dad0eda2f571124304f98cbc6ea41.jpeg

PP in a baking dish takes a little patience , but not that much

IMG_5571.thumb.jpeg.af2869c396a82356b637e58827a0193e.jpeg

35 Min.

removed from the pyrex after a few minutes , still warm

IMG_5575.thumb.jpeg.9f0c3f09a8a94e8d50156ab2c979c9ce.jpeg

Pyrex dish .  simple hot water hand washing : Done. easy peasey.

IMG_5577.thumb.jpeg.5c51e640625d85f0a93ac365fcf01cae.jpeg

cut warm on the PP

the bottom result , cooking this way :

IMG_5580.thumb.jpeg.5088f462c8be4e6596d99a9549004507.jpeg

outstanding this was .

next time maybe 1/2 the oil , some day 2 eggs

maybe more green chili flakes , and some Benton's bacon tiny ' lardons '

def : Bentons ' tine lardons '  slice the Benton's bacon into 1/8 " lardons .

fry a bit, or maybe not.

next trip to Market Basket  , Ill look for a Bob's RedMill mix , thats not sweet.

easy to work with , fine starting points for all sorts of MixIns

No eggs at Trader Joe’s today, at least not at the one where I shop.

The eggs were depleted at our market.  Bird flu + snow?

Whenever I get a chance to visit Trader Joe's I stock up on these:

20250119_140644.jpg

They're wonderful in pasta dishes and salads. This week I suddenly realized I'd been missing a trick. I'm not sure what I've done with the oil after all the artichoke hearts were eaten in past jars. I've probably used it in salad dressings sometimes, but can't remember. This week I brushed some of it on the outsides of my latest grilled ham and cheese sandwich before pressing and grilling it. I didn't take a photo -- it looked most of my previous sandwiches -- but the additional flavor was quite nice. Just now I used the remainder in my latest batch of hummus. Again, the seasonings added a nice kick.

TJ's cornbread mix , as before :

IMG_5666.thumb.jpeg.27e315a7beaf37342b0446b58cd25ce5.jpeg

IMG_5668.thumb.jpeg.74433d8d4d7729c92a04e00c0ca0dd02.jpeg

used 1/2 the recommended oil :  1/4 C  red pepper flakes , rather than green

they are easier to obtain

and some Benton's bacon , sliced thinly , fried gently 1/2 done , w the fat added

I didnt measure the flakes  , was a reasonably generous amount .

very nice delayed glow.   not as ' rich ' as the loaf w 1/2 C oil .

Benton's is powerful stuff .  lingering aromas of the bacon frying and baking

but the bacon flavor was subtle in the result.

a winner , for me , for sure.
