Suzanna was kind enough to let us taste some featured flavours - that I'm not supposed to share until they have been released.

They actually sell Schweddy Balls! The SNL skit with Alec Baldwin as Pete Schweddy was funny. They did another one with Betty White as Florence Dusty and her Dusty Muffin that was awesome.

How was the grilled artichoke to be eaten? Were the leaves tender (or super-crispy) enough to be eaten with a fork, or were they finger food?

Basically pulled off the leaves and scraped the bottom with your teeth like you would a steamed one - then the nice tender heart at the end. The choke was gone.

I know your time is always tight on these trips, but next time you're in the neighborhood, visit the Tenement Museum. It's just around the corner from the Russ & Daughters store, and down the block from the Russ & Daughters Cafe. You can only get inside by doing one of the tours, so you need to plan a little bit, but every one has given me an appreciation for how immigrant families somehow managed to make their way in a new country. (Disclaimer: I am the great-granddaughter of immigrants, although my particular family roots in the United States are mostly in the Bronx, not the LES. At least two of my grandparents had siblings who immigrated here with their parents. One of the tours is a pretty close representation to what one set of my great-grandparents did to earn a living.)
