PHX-PHL American Airlines

A chicken breast, terribly overcooked.  The rice was nice.  They served the rolls this time.

Singapore Airlines NYC-SIN... Meal #1

PXL_20241225_044153680.thumb.jpg.519c253fcad48858f2a303b3244984a2.jpg

A very nice mixed leaf salad with 2 perfectly poached shrimp, plus candied walnuts, blackberries and croutons. The sticky toffee pudding was pretty good too.

PXL_20241225_044247806.thumb.jpg.23067c570eae24cbb455dcb9b5842f73.jpg

My wife got steamed chicken with lily buds (book the cook)

PXL_20241225_044536779.thumb.jpg.e6513c3aecc2dcd7d30a8053cfe2066e.jpg

Mine was braised e-fu noodles with chicken and yu choy (also btk). Great aroma to the braising liquid and chicken (dark meat) was tender and moist. I've had this before but this time was a bit better and the yu choy were not overcooked this time like they were last time.

Meal #2:

PXL_20241225_144543121_MP.thumb.jpg.5aeb3ac7ec2d09665c8ac1a3915f757c.jpg

Decent croissant and the mixed fruit was ok - really good pineapple but strawberries were pretty flavorless. The yogurt/mango/oat/coconut confection was good.

PXL_20241225_144612083_MP.thumb.jpg.8d1c2d2cd1dedd43a3599717dbe06313.jpg

Wife got pork congee (book the cook)

PXL_20241225_144959053.thumb.jpg.23670932cf4ac2eb2b0d534e2541795b.jpg

Soy sauce chicken with wok fried noodles. Dark meat chicken was tender and moist and noodles had decent texture.

4 more hours until we land!

What is your flight time for this flight?

About 18 - 18.5 hours.

I also had a really good double chocolate muffin (from Norway) and a nice oolong tea about an hour ago but no pics.

This is the refresher just served about 2 hours before landing:

While it's no NYC pizza, it's a very tasty flat bread with tomato sauce, cheese and dried basil.

My wife got chicken satay (unpictured) and said it was the best satay of the trip!

And a decent Chinese oolong tea

Ah the good old  "cardboard pizza" !  As much as everyone made fun of it, no one turned it down prior to landing.

I wouldn't call it cardboard, and I come from the land of pizza!  Seriously, it was quite tasty - but the dough was more like a thick, soft flatbread than pizza. It's a quite welcome snack prior to landing, and I would say that it's certainly better than what's provided on most airlines that I've been on, not that that's saying much.

Singapore Airlines NYC-SIN. This time is something special - we were able to upgrade to Business class with our miles...

Menu for dinner (served around 1AM Ny time)

PXL_20250702_050415088.thumb.jpg.fea0e415a938bd29213548934ebdf42f.jpg

First course:

PXL_20250702_042439758.thumb.jpg.eee5e6f6184a3aa530e36b1643bb3d3a.jpg

Salad of smoked trout with micro greens, pickled onion and spiced hazelnut. There was a choice of breads - I took the garlic bread - really garlicky and nicely toasted.

PXL_20250702_044609027.thumb.jpg.04a6dbad268ae14a398b54cd8cbb5a06.jpg

Chicken rice with chilli sauce, sweet soy sauce and lots of grated ginger. It was quite good, although I don't think Wee Nam Kee has anything to worry about.

PXL_20250702_045901657_MP.thumb.jpg.be0360fa251b089f7c4fb886dfe7bf8a.jpg

Chocolate ganache cake - holy crap this was good. Inside was a nice orange compote of some kind - not too sweet and not too orangy - just a hint.

In addition to the menu choices they have something called Book The Cook - a bunch of choices you can pre-order up to 2 days before the flight. And you can view the standard menu items at the same time so you wind up with maybe 12 choices of meals, plus the special meals like vegetarian, kosher, low salt, etc.

2nd meal of Sing Air (about 8 hours later):

PXL_20250702_134409843.thumb.jpg.7a16674d4c4cfddd665a3a25dd601b41.jpg

Appetizer of citrus grilled shrimp salad with ginger balsamic vinaigrette.

PXL_20250702_135604871.thumb.jpg.1c284ca14fd885b8c56a7dcd90b938a0.jpg

My wife got the duck confit from the standard menu. It looked a little tough. She said it was ok.

PXL_20250702_140422160.thumb.jpg.2731a317f2ff43e0e623534d409f9db5.jpg

I got the shrimp/pork wonton noodle soup. This was really good - super thin wonton skin, perfectly cooked shrimp, noodles had good texture in a nice chicken broth with not over cooked Chinese broccoli. They topped it with fried garlic chips and some fried garlic oil.

Then came the dessert trolley:

PXL_20250702_143419273_MP.thumb.jpg.e77e34bb9281765468ea91c27e1309f8.jpg

I got the apricot tart.

Just in case there wasn't enough, they came around with a tray of chocolate...

"Carrot cake" with prawn, fried shallots, lontong (rice cake) and radish (that's the carrot part). All fried in lard... A Singapore specialty.

1st of 2 sectors, St John's Newfoundland to Toronto on Porter.  Croissant with cream cheese, a poultry product and rocket. Also a mango blueberry with cinnamon and lime dressing I think.

2nd sector Toronto to Dubai on Emirates..  Started with the caviar with a 2014 Corton Charlemagne.  Main course was lamb chop and braised lamb shoulder served with celeriac puree and root vegetables.  Becoming Led Zeppelin was the video. But the highlight was a 2004 Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Very smooth and tasty, had a few glasses of that before I fell asleep.

Singapore Airlines biz class has ruined me!  I used to think that the food in premium economy on this airline was amazing, but this time it was disappointing - even though it was probably the same as always. Also, I felt like the service was extremely rushed, but now I'm comparing apples and oranges. Here inPE, there's a couple flight attendants for maybe 40-50 people - in biz, there's maybe one attendant for 6 or 10. Obviously there's no comparison.  In biz, when my water glass (of Perrier) was slightly less than half full, the attendant poured more. Here in PE, they have Schweppes and no refills until much later...  I'm not complaining - this is still heads and tails over what I've seen on most other airlines.

Menus for tonight's fight:

PXL_20250713_010830098.thumb.jpg.49acdf1f3d4b29603e9991c76f3debe7.jpg

I didn't get anything off the normal menus but instead used Book the Cook ordered in advance. There's a lot of choices - even more coming from Singapore than from NY - at least 10.

PXL_20250712_163718978_MP.thumb.jpg.93de08e62c1a9b8d7d3550608a739b9c.jpg

Cold smoked shrimp salad but rather than served with potatoes as on the menu, it looked like farro or something. The roll was warm and stuffed with garlic butter. Really good.

PXL_20250712_164306348.thumb.jpg.713b4fd3b2b424803586588ea1d3a218.jpg

Chicken biryani. Tasty as always.

The lime cake was also really good - light and just sweet enough to balance the citrus.

Second meal, SIN-Newark:

PXL_20250713_011818120.thumb.jpg.d4ef19117df4b333fd9bcfa07311ffbb.jpg

The croissant was served warm and was nice and flaky.

PXL_20250713_012338438.thumb.jpg.f6101b27f68224fc6a88400bffe781ee.jpg

Wonton mee with char sieu and Chinese broccoli from book the cook. Pork was really tender and both the wontons and noodles were good also. And their sambal was a nice touch.
